Position Summary

Adjunct faculty are valued as an integral and vital component of the University's teaching staff, providing unique and valuable perspectives and contributions. We have an excellent opportunity for Adjunct Faculty to join our highly engaged teaching staff in the Sanford College of Education, University Support Provider- Special Education. The University Support Provider will serve as the instructor for field-based special education clinical practice and will be responsible to observe, coach and evaluate student teacher candidates and assess their demonstration of competencies in the state-required Universal and Education Specialist Teacher Performance Expectations.

Note: The position is responsible to supervise special education teaching for 12-16 weeks and/or special education interns for a minimum of 8 months.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Assigned to observe, support, and evaluate candidates
  • Supervising candidates assuring that Clinical Practice hours are documented
  • Responsible for completing and entering observations and assessments digitally
  • Assigned as instructor for Clinical Practice, responsible for entering a grade at the end of course
  • Lead classroom sessions on-site and/or online according to university policies
  • Provide expertise in assigned content areas by maintaining current knowledge in the field
  • Respond to student needs in a timely fashion or typically within 48 hours
  • Have a strong emphasis on student-centered learning by encouraging participation in their own learning and promoting student inquiry
  • Maintain a positive, safe, inclusive student-centric learning environment
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree to be in Special Education or a related field
  • Valid CLEAR Education Specialist credential
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience in Special Education
  • Current knowledge of the content; relevancy
  • Knowledge of the current context of public schooling including California adopted P-12 content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems
  • Knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation
  • Demonstration of effective professional practices in teaching and learning, scholarship, and service
  • Proficiency in common internet tools, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must reside and be eligible to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
  • College-level or field teaching experience strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in coaching/mentoring beginning special education teachers
  • Preferred availability during school day for observations and meetings
  • Experience teaching adult learners
