WISCIENCE PROGRAM COORDINATOR

Salary:

Minimum $45,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for the position is $45,000 but is negotiable based on qualifications.

Job Summary:

The WISCIENCE Program Coordinator works collaboratively with program directors to provide intellectual, programmatic, and organizational support for WISCIENCE programs and courses in the following areas:

Service Program:
- Will support service learning within courses and programs (Exploring Service in STEM; Service with Youth in STEM; Public Service Fellows) and develop sustainable relationships with community partners, ensuring effective undergraduate and graduate student learning and engagement.

Teaching and Learning Program:
- Will support teaching professional development programs for graduate students and postdocs (the Scientific Teaching Fellows Program and Scientific Teaching For TAs) as well as undergraduate courses that help diverse students transition to UW-Madison and develop leadership skills (Exploring Biology course and Exploring Biology peer leaders).

Research Mentor and Mentee Training Programs:
-Will support mentorship education courses, workshops, and programs for undergraduate students (Exploring Research in STEM; Entering Research in STEM; Summer Research Experience) and graduate students, postdocs, staff, and faculty (Research Mentor Training).

PEOPLE Program:
-Will support the WISCIENCE sponsored STEM courses in the PEOPLE Summer University program including program logistics, curriculum development, and evaluation; act as a liaison between PEOPLE administration and PEOPLE STEM instructors.

This position reports to the WISCIENCE Associate Director.

The Wisconsin Institute for Science Education and Community Engagement (WISCIENCE) is part of the Division for Teaching and Learning (DTL) along with the Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA), the Center for Teaching, Learning and Mentoring (CTLM), the Morgridge Center for Public Service, and the Student Learning Assessment (SLA) office.

Our programs promote diversity, educational innovation, engaged scholarship, outreach and collaboration. WISCIENCE provides cross-campus services to undergraduate students, graduate students, postdoctoral scholars, staff, and faculty to support the University's strategic goal of excellence in education.

Responsibilities:

Assists with or supports the design, development, and enhancement of instructional activities, programs, and curricula. Utilizes effective educational methodologies and technologies to meet organizational and learner needs.
  • 30% Assists with the design and development of engaging, effective learning experiences which may be face-to-face, blended, and/or online
  • 10% Completes initial edits, reviews, and updates of existing instructional materials
  • 5% Contributes to researching, designing, and/or acquiring learning resources, technologies, materials, and/or processes to support learning
  • 10% Assists with providing basic training and technical support to learners in settings such as classrooms, labs, clinics, and distance learning mediums
  • 15% Provides support for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and disseminating data to identify instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness
  • 10% Provides support for faculty development and engagement programs and activities
  • 10% Support course and program logistics including purchasing and expense tracking
  • 10% Serve as a liaison with student programs and STEM partners across on and off campus
Tasks:
  • Design and develop course/program materials in collaboration with the program director. Anticipate the changing needs of the course/program and make adjustments. Develop processes to check in at critical junctures, get feedback, then proceed.
  • Support program application and interview processes through updating marketing and recruitment materials, receiving and organizing applications, coordinating interviews, and answering applicant and committee questions.
  • Support program directors to track their course and program alumni by updating alumni surveys, cleaning and collating data, and uploading data to the WISCIENCE database.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and partners with different working styles. Be able to adapt and respond to different styles.
  • Promote responsive, continuous engagement with the Madison community in relation to service learning programming.
  • Attend off-campus sites to observe students in community-based learning courses.
  • Network within the public service community, identify partnership opportunities and facilitate discussions to match students' interests with community organizations for STEM public service program practicums.
  • Conduct informal mid-point and/or exit conversations with students and community partners in support of public service programs.
  • Develop and maintain a searchable archive of program materials and artifacts for dissemination.
  • Manage scheduling, logistics, and purchasing for courses and programs. Support program events and activities including arranging catering, reserving and setting up spaces, and gathering materials.
  • Provide program/course support including updating documents, copying, and preparing supplies and materials for classroom and beyond the classroom learning activities.

- High level of organization, detail-oriented, and able to track multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience using project management strategies, ability to prioritize and reprioritize competing tasks, and experience communicating tasks to others.
- Development of synthetic understanding of a project to anticipate what is needed and when.
- Clear written and oral communication. Adept at active listening.
- Able to take direction and feedback from others and willingness to propose new ideas in support of course/program goals.
- Knowledge of what goes into the design and implementation of college-level courses.
- Use of strategies for continuous improvement of programs and courses.
- Experience developing and sustaining relationships among individuals and organizations on and off campus.
- Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in working and collaborating with other people.
- Proficiency with technology that is used to support programs/courses at UW-Madison (ex. scheduling and calendar tools, web conferencing tools (Zoom), learning management systems (Canvas), survey and data analysis tools (Qualtrics) etc.).
