The Gordon Career Center works with students of all class years to translate their liberal education into a lifetime of meaningful work. Position Description: Reporting to the Associate Director for Employer Relations, the Assistant Director is responsible for the management and development of the Gordon Career Center’s On Campus Recruiting program, working directly with employers, alumni, and parents who seek to hire Wesleyan students and effectively implementing employer recruiting activities. The Assistant Director will maintain relationships with employers and develop career-related programming for the center.

Responsibilities:
  • Strategically construct and manage a high-volume year-round recruiting program:
    • Serve as the main contact for employers working with the career center
    • Establish and enforce guidelines for student participation in recruiting program
    • Create and update recruiting guidelines and policies for employers
    • Oversee employer campus visits, interviews, and off-campus visits to employer sites.
    • Collaborate with career center staff, academic departments, faculty, and student organizations to make connections with employers and develop opportunities and programming for students
    • Maintain career management platform Handshake and create best practices for career center staff, students, and employers
  • Survey employers about their recruiting experience, including student applications, interviews, and hiring outcomes, to identify strengths and areas that need improvement.
  • Analyze data and make recommendations to identify recruiting trends and future engagement opportunities.
  • Develop and strategize communication to students and academic departments to market employer events and hiring opportunities.
  • Oversee CSPL 493: Internship for Credit course; create syllabus and assignments, manage enrollment, communicate with employers and students throughout the semester, and partner with the Associate Provost to make final grade recommendations.
  • Support the Associate Director with the administration of Wesleyan Summer Grants, including marketing Wesleyan’s grant program to eligible students and developing and executing the summer grants showcase during Homecoming/Family Weekend.
  • Represent the career center in a variety of events, including consortia events, conferences, and visits to employer sites.
  • Train and supervise student employees.
  • Support Gordon Career Center flagship programs as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of one year (professional or student) of program or event management and development or similar work experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Proven ability to engage and interact effectively with diverse constituents, build effective relationships and serve as an ambassador.

Proven ability to set goals and to develop strategies and timelines to manage projects and reach goals.

Strong communications skills along with development and delivery of presentations.

Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

Prior event management experience.

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Experience working in a team to achieve shared goals.

Demonstrated ability to learn and use new technology.

Knowledge of surveys and analyzing data

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Ability to work some evenings and occasional overnight travel as necessary.

Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact collegially with individuals of different backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of a liberal arts college as a student, employee, or recruiter.

Knowledge of and experience and/or exposure to a university career center.

Familiarity with Handshake and Moodle.
