Salary for Announcement

The salary ranges for this position are $60,000 – $65,000 at Assistant Professor rank; $68,000 – $73,000 at Associate Professor rank; and $83,000 – $88,000 at Full Professor. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

Position Summary

The Department of Social Work at Metropolitan State University of Denver is seeking applicants for a full-time open rank, tenured/tenure track position to teach primarily in our MSW Program . MSU Denver’s Department of Social Work prides itself on a richly talented faculty comprised of teacher-scholars who are highly dedicated to support diverse students in growing as social work scholars, practitioners, and leaders in the multitude of settings social workers perform.

The mission of MSU Denver’s Department of Social Work’ is to provide an inclusive, inspiring environment for undergraduate, graduate, and community education in social work that is value driven, research informed, culturally responsive, academically rigorous, and which links theory with practice. Our faculty have expertise in culturally responsive practice that is relationally based. We are actively interrogating and revising our curriculum to reflect anti-oppressive practices while educating our students for the provision of effective clinical social work services with diverse communities in micro, mezzo and macro settings serving vulnerable and underserved populations. We work to actively to engage in anti-racist practices in all aspects of our programming; faculty members are encouraged to actively engage in our aspirations to dismantle systems of oppression.

As the third largest institution of higher education in Colorado and the only institution with an open access mission, MSU Denver is a model university for today’s college students. The University serves the most diverse undergraduate student population in the state, as well as the most first-generation students and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals students. Nearly 80% of MSU Denver students work while going to school and the University is focused on making sure they have the well-rounded educational experience and wraparound services they need to excel.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidates will serve in the areas of departmental need, candidate qualifications and expertise.
  1. Teaching will consist of 18 credits per academic year (three courses per semester). Teaching may include online, face to face, and hybrid instruction. The successful candidate will take on lead faculty responsibilities for specific courses and be responsible to update and modify online and on campus course material. Release time from teaching can be given to faculty for significant administrative duties that require time above and beyond service. Advising responsibilities include a designated load of students and performing professional advising for students in the program.
  2. A scholarly agenda is expected and supported, and production of quality scholarship is required.
  3. Service work is expected, including work on Departmental, College and/or University committees, as well as active service involvement in professional organizations and/or the community. This includes an expectation of support and/or leadership in Diversity, Equity & Inclusion work within the department.
  4. Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  1. Master of Social Work ( MSW ) degree from a Council on Social Work Education ( CSWE )-accredited institution
  2. Two (2) years relevant post- MSW experience
  3. Earned doctorate degree in social work or other related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered with evidence of degree conferral by August 20, 2023
  4. One year of teaching content relevant to social work using online LMS (e.g., Blackboard or Canvas) or virtual online interface


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise addressing issues of race, racism, and racial justice in the US whose scholarship has focused on application to practice/praxis.
  • Demonstrated experience related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, practice, policy, and/or research.
  • Leadership in advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion through anti-oppressive, anti-racist, or liberatory approaches to practice, teaching, scholarship, curriculum development, administrative experience, or professional activities in social work.
  • Leadership in advancing online or distributed teaching, pedagogy, and curriculum design.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience teaching social work theory, practice, and/or research related courses.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce peer-reviewed scholarship.
  • Experience developing and organizing graduate level social work courses.
  • Previous teaching, practice or research experience serving within an HSI, HBCU, or Tribal College.
  • Previous teaching, practice, or research experience with first generation college students and/or historically underrepresented groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to secure external funding.
