The College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences invites
applications for a 12-month Assistant Teaching Professor of Theatre
and Artistic Director of the Schuster Theatre to begin in July
2023. The successful candidate will serve as program director for
the undergraduate program in Theatre and Communication Arts and
will collaborate with the Technical Director in leading and
managing the Schuster Theatre, which mounts four mainstage
productions per year. In addition, there is a "Shakespeare Summer
Nights" production in an outdoor setting in the summer and travel
to Scotland for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe once every four
years.
The successful candidate will teach courses in acting, directing and other areas of expertise, and will advise students and prepare them intellectually, professionally and personally. The Artistic Director manages student staff in conjunction with the Technical Director, and ensures success of the Schuster Theatre on business, academic and artistic aspects. In addition, the Artistic Director is responsible for recruitment, promotions, and financial transactions related to the theater productions. Administrative release time from teaching will be provided to facilitate these responsibilities.
Candidates must be able to support and promote the University's inclusive Mission, its Catholic identity, and its liberal arts and professional education traditions. Requirements include an MFA, MA, PhD, or DFA in theatre or a related field required with an emphasis on directing and/or theatre management and demonstrated teaching excellence in higher education. Experience running a small theater or arts organization is desired.
