Basic Function:
Under the supervision of the Regional Director of the California Reading and Literature Project, the CRLP Teacher Leader's responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, delivering professional learning in literacy and language development to teachers at open institutes, workshops, and/or designated school districts/sites. This work includes planning and presenting, facilitating workshops, coaching review sessions, and planning collaboratively with other CRLP Teacher Leaders. Teacher leaders may also plan and teach summer camp sessions for local area students.

Representative Duties:
  • Prepare and present signature programs at open institutes and workshops
  • Prepare and present review sessions & coaching sessions at regional schools and districts
  • Prepare and teach summer camps for local students
  • Collaborate with other CRLP Teacher Leaders to improve practices
    • Observe lessons presented by CRLP Teacher Leaders and/or videotape lessons
    • Provide feedback and advice for fellow CRLP Teacher Leaders


  • With regional office support, organize and set up workshops, training sessions, and other events
  • Collaborate with teachers and CRLP Teacher Leaders to develop improved curricula, lesson plans, assessments, and classroom management techniques to foster an improved learning experience
  • Develop new strategies and plans for an improved learning experience
  • Keep abreast of developments in relevant subject areas
  • Build teacher networks in order to share resources and knowledge
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the regional director and/or program coordinator(s)



Knowledge Of:
  • TK-12 ELA & ELD standards and frameworks, as they pertain to specific signature programs
  • California Reading and Literature Project mission
  • Content of CRLP signature programs
  • Strong communication skills that include appropriate use of email and social media
  • Interpersonal skills that reflect inclusive and equitable practices
  • Principles of adult learning and professional development training





Ability To:
  • Determine appropriate action within defined guidelines
  • Work independently and effectively with little direction
  • Communicate effectively, in both oral and written forms, to internal and external audiences
  • Think critically, understand and resolve issues, complaints, and problems efficiently and thoroughly
  • Compose correspondence and other written materials independently
  • Create multimedia presentations





Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a master’s degree from a graduate institution of recognized standing or equivalent experience and professional recognition.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Current California Teaching Credential as well as extensive teaching experience in the areas of literacy development, English Language Development and/or other related disciplines
  • Extensive teaching experience using the specific strategies in CRLP signature programs
