Job Description
Montgomery College, Office of Business Services (OBS) has an immediate need for a full time Accountant III. The typical work schedule is Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This is a grade 29, non-bargaining, exempt position. The position is located in Rockville, Maryland. After successful completion of initial employment probationary period, this position is eligible for telework up to two days per week. Flexibility will be required based on the needs of the College. Responsibilities of the Accountant III will include performing in-depth professional and specialized accounting work, including auditing, analyzing, maintaining, and verifying fiscal records and reports, preparing financial, audit reports, and reconciling general ledger accounts. This accounting work requires the understanding and application of complex ac counting principles and practices. Works independently to resolve a wide range of complex problems.

This accounting work requires the understanding and application of complex ac counting principles and practices. Works independently to resolve a wide range of complex problems.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Review, maintain and reconcile accounts, adjusting, corrections, and journal entries as appropriate, prepares periodic and special reports and statements. Perform reconciliation activities.
- Assist in the preparation of annual Financial Statements and requisite footnotes in compliance with GASB accounting regulations.
- Participates in the preparation of Federal, State and Local Financial reports.
- Develop internal Financial reports for presentation to Management level stakeholders.
- Trace discrepancies in accounts, financial documents, data entries, reports and records and makes corrections.
- Compile data from account records to create and maintain computer spreadsheets for posting, maintaining, analyzing, and reporting financial information.
- Res earc h, and processes charge-backs. Prepare financial statements, quarterly reports, and required regulatory reports from governmental entities.
- Participates in annual audit preparation and year end close activities.
- Respond to inquiries from College units, vendors, financial institutions regarding accounts and transactions, s earc h account records and transaction files for information to answer inquiries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Five years of progressively responsible accounting or finance experience demonstrating advanced level knowledge and skill in areas such as general ledger, budget formulation, and grants administration.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board regulations (GASB).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Advanced skill
using Excel (VLookup, Pivot tables macros, logic functions,
etc.)
Ability to communicate clearly with written and spoken communication - Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United states and not require employer visa sponsorship.
- CPA or Masters in a related field preferred.
