Job Details

The University Marketing Department at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Director of Web & Digital Strategy, (full-time, 12 month) position. In a fast-emerging digital environment, the Director of Web and Digital Strategy leads a team that works in an entrepreneurial and strategic way to push forward ideas, innovation, execution and culture, driving the Old Dominion University brand to new heights using digital experience and engagement as essential elements. The director is responsible for identifying, developing and executing the most effective strategies to reach and connect with the University’s key target audiences through web and digital media. The director serves as the university’s chief web and social media strategist as part of the University Communications leadership team, integrating web, social and digital media strategy with the University’s global marketing and communication initiatives. This position supervises a team of four digital communications professionals including a social media manager, web communication specialists and a part-time digital media specialist. Additional positions in UX and analytics may be added in the future.

Required Education: Master’s degree in communications, marketing, digital media or related fields required or bachelor’s degree with experience and training equivalent to a master’s degree in the fields mentioned.


Required Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of web technologies, including content management systems; working knowledge of HTML and CSS. Experience working within a content management system, such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) or Drupal. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. Working knowledge of AP Style. Working knowledge of search engine optimization, data analysis, content management systems, data visualization tools, email marketing systems, and how these tools integrate with each other. Excellent written and verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to effectively multitask. Considerable experience demonstrating success in planning, buying, optimizing, and tracking digital advertising campaigns, including PPC, retargeted, IP-targeted, and social media advertising. Considerable experience crafting and executing multi-channel digital strategies in support of marketing goals and objectives. Considerable project management experience. Considerable experience with experience design/UX. Some experience working in higher education. Some experience specifically with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and/or Drupal. Considerable experience developing and implementing a strategy for managing social media accounts for a large, complex organization. Some experience working within brand guidelines. Some supervisory experience.
