Assistant Professor, Graduate Department of Clinical Psychology (Tenure-Track)

Job Description

The University of Indianapolis is seeking an Assistant Professor in the Graduate Department of Clinical Psychology (GDCP) beginning in August 2022. This is a full-time, tenure-track position within our APA-accredited PsyD program.

We are especially seeking an individual with a scholarly and teaching interest in clinical psychology broadly; however, a focus or interest in Cognitive assessment, including IQ testing, Autism evaluation, or Neuropsychological assessment, is preferred. Courses for this position would likely include Foundation Skills of Psychotherapy, Cognitive and Intellectual Assessment, and elective courses in assessment depending on the area of focus or interest. The successful candidate would also be expected to teach a year-long (Fall, Winter, Summer) Practicum Seminar course, which involves students’ case presentations and engaging in peer consultation.

The successful candidate will be expected to engage in a program of applied or basic research with the potential to make a significant contribution to the literature and the field of clinical or counseling psychology. Additional activities include chairing doctoral dissertations and professional service to the program, university, and profession. Preference will be given to applicants from an APA accredited doctoral program in clinical or counseling psychology who are licensed or license eligible. ABDs may be considered with the expectation of degree completion prior to starting the position.

The GDCP is located within the College of Applied Behavioral Sciences, an academic unit that offers BA/BS degrees in Psychology and Social Work, MS/MA degrees in Psychology and Mental Health Counseling, MA specialization in Art Therapy, and APA-accredited PsyD clinical psychology programs. The doctoral program, which has adopted a practitioner-scholar model, accepts 30-40 students per year and offers concentrations in adult psychopathology and psychotherapy, health psychology/behavioral medicine, and child and adolescent psychology. Our College and Department are strongly committed to diversity, with opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to participate in College- and Department-level standing diversity committees designed to engage in continuous discussions of issues of College and University climate and advise the administration. In addition, we are home to professional organizations including ABPsi UIndy Student Circle, faculty-led relationship/community enhancement groups for BIPOC and international students, and an annual fellowship designed specifically for students from diverse backgrounds. In addition, all first-year faculty are matched with a faculty mentor as well as a new-faculty cohort and two-semester orientation and peer support group.

  • Teaches dynamic, interactive, and engaging graduate courses
  • Supervises doctoral dissertations
  • Develops a program of research/scholarship that involves students
  • Serves on departmental, college, and/or university-wide committees as required
  • PhD or PsyD in Psychology, Counseling, or a related field required
  • License-eligible or licensed at the doctoral level in Indiana
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level
