Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, an undergraduate college of The New School, invites applications for four-year, full-time, Renewable Term Appointment. The Renewable Term Appointment (RTA) is a university-wide faculty appointment type. The first contract is generally for 4 years; contracts may be renewed indefinitely, dependent on University need and successful review at the end of each contract. RTA faculty are considered principal faculty and are eligible for research support. They also may be considered for promotion in rank. Review of applications will begin immediately and the position will remain open until filled.

Lang College’s philosophy on first-year writing courses includes an emphasis on student voice(s), a commitment to the differences in student voices, and building writing confidence in our students. We are also committed to having a diversity of types of writers teaching in our program and diversity in our faculty. The successful candidate will be knowledgeable in best practices in first-year writing instruction. Demonstrated success in teaching and mentoring students is essential. More about the first-year experience can be found here.

Eugene Lang College is an undergraduate liberal arts college within the larger nexus of The New School, which includes Parsons School of Design, The New School for Social Research, the College of Performing Arts, the Schools for Public Engagement, and Parsons Paris. A home for progressive thought and pedagogy with a commitment to seminar-style teaching and learning, Lang has an open curriculum, in which students craft their own learning experiences and maximize the counsel of faculty. Lang’s faculty embrace interdisciplinary teaching and seminar-based pedagogy, incorporating principles of social justice and equity in their research, creative practice, and shared work with students. Lang students take courses across The New School and may pursue joint BA/BFA and BA/MA degrees; Lang faculty actively collaborate with colleagues across the university.

Eugene Lang College promotes active learning through small, innovative seminar discussion classes. The college’s First-Year Writing program extends this vision by offering workshop-based first-year writing courses on topics in the humanities and social sciences. First-Year Writing at Lang does not see students as empty vessels, but instead as writers discovering themselves as the source of their own creativity and knowledge, as they hone the skills that will empower them through the first year and beyond.

Comprehensive University benefits package includes health and retirement plans, as well as tuition remission. Visit The New School’s Benefit’s website for more information: http://www.newschool.edu/human-resources/benefits/

At Lang, social justice is the ethical core of a liberal arts education. The college is committed to ensuring an equitable, inclusive, and socially just environment for our students, staff, and faculty. That commitment requires recruiting students, staff, and faculty who reflect the diversity of thought, experiences, and identities of our global society. It also requires pedagogy, policies, and practices that institutionalize the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice.

The New School is strongly committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and particularly seeks applications from members of underrepresented groups, as well as candidates who share this commitment.
