Mercyhurst University invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in Sociology/Criminal Justice to begin in August 2023. The candidate will have a dual appointment in the Department of Applied Sociology and the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice, both housed in the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in Sociology and/or Criminology by the time of appointment. Candidates with significant discipline related experience are encouraged to apply. For candidates without a terminal degree, hiring will be at the instructor level until the Ph.D. is completed.  A juris doctorate will not be considered for this position.  The position will begin at the non-tenure track level but has the potential to move to tenure-track.

Job Description:

Successful candidates will teach upper-level sociology courses (which include Social Science Research Methods and Sociological Theory) as well as criminology courses at the undergraduate level within their area of expertise. Specialization is open but special attention will be given to candidates with an expertise in Victimology or Human Trafficking. In addition to instruction, duties will include advising, curriculum development, service to the profession, and participation in department, college, and university activities. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, continued learning in their field, academic scholarship, and public scholarship. This is not an online only position.
