ABOUT THE POSITION:  The Department of Music, Theatre, and Film at The University of Alabama in Huntsville invites applications for a visiting professor position, in the area of wind band conducting, at the assistant or associate professor level. The appointment will be for the 2023-2024 academic year, with a possible one-year extension. We seek applicants who welcome the challenges and rewards of serving on a diverse and artistically talented faculty of a growing department, located in a dynamic and thriving arts community.

Responsibilities:  Provide effective leadership as the conductor of the UAH Wind Ensemble, coupled with a recruiting component integral to the growth of the department. Additional responsibilities include instruction in the areas of conducting and music education and overseeing the leadership of the university pep band. The regular teaching load is three courses per semester. Faculty are expected to be active collaborators and to participate actively in the profession, university service, and outreach to the local community, as well.

Qualifications:  A D.M./D.M.A. in Wind Band Conducting and an ability to effectively rehearse/conduct wind ensemble/band, as well as highly effective instruction in undergraduate/graduate courses related to conducting and music education. Ideal candidates will be serious educators and scholars with a proven track record of effective rehearsal/conducting skills, in connection to wind band conducting and resulting performances, at the collegiate level. Additional experience in orchestral conducting is a plus. ABDs will be considered; however, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by August 1, 2023, to be appointed at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:  The Department of Music, Theatre, and Film offers a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with concentrations in a variety of areas, and supports a Master of Arts in Teaching with a music specialization. Faculty are committed to excellence in teaching, creative activity/research, and service.
