The Director of RISD Global provides overall management of off-campus programs, supports operations, and risk, ensuring that all aspects of off-campus learning are in line with best practices in the field. The Director partners closely with faculty, staff, and administration to envision, create, represent, and realize off-campus academic learning for students and to develop and manage geographically-varied opportunities in line with RISD’s SEI and Sustainability goals through partnerships, programs, exchanges, courses, and events. The Director supervises RISD Global staff in Providence and in other locations, both local and international, as warranted by program. The incumbent also partners regularly with other offices at RISD engaged in off-campus learning and partnership, including the division deans and department heads, the Provost’s Office, General Counsel, the Office of Registrar, Student Financial Services, RISD Careers, and International Student Services and Scholar Affairs.

We seek applications from equity-minded candidates who will thrive in a campus environment that is committed to advancing the principles of social equity and inclusion, and equal access to resources and opportunities.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and manage opportunities for faculty exchange.
  • Oversee the marketing of off-campus/international programming, including messaging, events, and outreach, with an eye toward growing and diversifying RISD students’ participation in off-campus opportunities.
  • Coordinate assessment protocols to determine the quality of program offerings and services and make strategic recommendations for refinement, as warranted.
  • Cultivate and maintain a dynamic network of colleagues and partners, including academic, cultural, government and non-government organizations in leading global cities and sites, which support academic experiences and coordinated programming for students and faculty.
2. Office Operations:
  • Oversee all operations of the RISD Global office in its role of providing consistent access, resources, and support for students, their parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Recruit, train, mentor and effectively manage the RISD Global staff to ensure a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Provide strong fiscal management for all RISD Global Office resources, in conjunction with the Provost’s Office.
  • Engage in and contribute to student advising for off-campus programs, in coordination with other program advising staff.
  • Actively lead administrative committees, or engage faculty committees, related to off-campus programming.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and data as needed to support the College’s study away and internationalization efforts.
  • Answer inquiries from students, parents, faculty, and staff pertaining to study abroad.
  • Oversee a program of student peer advising and work-study support as part of the RISD Global team.
3. Program Risk Management:
  • Manage health and safety concerns for all RISD Global programs, including vetting of sites, training of staff, and coordination of crisis response with and understanding of the current global mobility landscape.
  • Partner with the Director of Risk and Emergency Management to ensure compliance with established procedures related to risk management, crisis communications and technology, and records disposition.
  • Serve as co-chair, with the Director of Risk and Emergency Management, of RISD’s International Incident Response Team (IIRT).
  • Participate in an on-call emergency schedule for students and faculty studying off-campus.
