Position Summary:

The Educational Assistant for the Hospitality Management Department provides food purchasing
activities and laboratory instruction.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree in Culinary Arts or related field; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential duties.

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:
  • Two years' experience cooking, purchasing of food, supervisory experience in a commercial setting
  • Familiarity with recipe conversions and substitutions
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Strong office administration skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Familiarity with student learning concepts
  • Basic information technology skills
  • Reliable transportation
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be flexible with scheduling hours to meet needs of program and events

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Hospitality Management Assistant is accountable for providing food purchasing activities and laboratory instruction through these essential duties:
  • Purchasing of food and related supplies for a college cooking program
  • Inventory of all food and wares
  • Coordination of food lab purchase orders and requisitions
  • Supervise and train students in the preparation of food
  • Supervise and train students during non-class events
  • Supervise and train students in safety, sanitation and maintenance of lab and dining room
  • Maintains paperwork, billing, and reports
  • Organize, plan and prepare catered functions
  • Interact with college and community guests
