Job Summary

The Department of Art and Art History at the University of Texas at Tyler invites applications for a tenure-track appointment as Assistant Professor, with a specialization in the areas of printmaking and drawing/two-dimensional media, beginning fall 2023. This is a full-time position that may require in-person presence on the UT Tyler main campus five days a week.

Essential Functions

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach three (3) courses per semester, including but not limited to: a combined section of beginning and advanced printmaking, digital composition and design, and other undergraduate two-dimensional courses as needed.
  • Will be expected to serve our M.A./M.F.A. studio art graduates as faculty mentor, committee member, or committee chair.
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities consistent with rank and related to the field of printmaking
  • Service to the department, college, university, and profession.
    • Service to the department may include academic advising for undergraduate and/or graduate students, serve as faculty mentor to studio art graduate students, participate in mid-term graduate studio visits and end of semester graduate critiques, serving on MA and/or MFA graduate committees, serving on a variety of university and departmental committees, participating in departmental, university and community sponsored events

 

Required Qualifications

  • M.F.A., must be in hand by August 1, 2023.
  • Specialization in the area of printmaking

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate or post-graduate teaching experience.
  • Experience with Canvas.
  • Experience running a printmaking facility, shop, or classroom.

 

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

  • Well-organized, have strong communication skills - especially as related to dynamic and engaging teaching, and excellent time-management abilities.
  • Effective teamwork and collaboration with colleagues.
  • Should be well versed in various traditional printmaking processes such as: intaglio, screen-printing, relief printing, monotypes, and various image transfer techniques.
  • Should be able to manage all aspects of the printmaking studio: from use, equipment, materials, and environmental health and safety compliance.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
