Director of International Enrollment Strategies

About the Opportunity

The Director of International Enrollment Strategies will report to the Senior Director of IEM and will be involved in most areas of IEM's responsibilities as a unit.

The International Enrollment Management (IEM) unit is embedded within the Northeastern University's Enrollment Management unit, which is overseen by the Chief Enrollment Management Officer. IEM is responsible for meeting international enrollment goals for all F1 approved graduate/bachelor's completion/Global Pathways programs across all relevant colleges and campuses in the university ecosystem, including the Global Campus Network (the University currently has campuses in the US, Canada and the UK). IEM has a large global footprint and strategic priorities for the unit include building pipelines for our Global Campuses as these come online, maintaining a strong foothold in existing markets and expanding to new markets with smaller existing pipelines.

The Director of International Enrollment Strategies will manage and drive the relationship between IEM and Northeastern's colleges and Global Campuses, including stakeholders on the Global Campus Network marketing and recruitment teams. Additional responsibilities of the role include managing IEM's relationship with foreign government bodies represented in the US as well as engaging with various university stakeholders with a goal of finding viable new recruitment channels and partnerships. The Director will be a part of a small but highly collaborative team based in the US and will be expected to assist with ad-hoc projects as relevant and needed.

Specific duties of this role include:

  • Working directly with internal stakeholders from Northeastern's colleges and campuses to ensure that IEM and the colleges are jointly on track to meeting international enrollment goals for graduate/bachelor's completion/Global Pathways programs
  • Driving strategies with NU colleges and campuses to ensure we jointly build a diverse incoming class
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for the Global Campus Network marketing and enrollment team within NU and leading/providing support on joint projects
  • Building relationships with representatives of foreign government entities represented in the US, identifying options for IEM to utilize such relationships to build new pipelines and subsequently add more diversity to our incoming class
  • Working closely with both the US-based and the overseas IEM team to jointly meet annual enrollment targets for all colleges and campuses.

A successful candidate will be a team player with a strong work ethic, excellent communication/diplomacy skills and demonstrated ability to successfully work independently, and who actively contributes to the office welfare in a high volume, fast-paced environment. Critical thinking skills, demonstrated success with high-level stakeholder management and the ability to assess the impact/downstream effects of proposed solutions before implementation are crucial to being successful in this role. The role requires the ability and willingness to balance initiatives and ideas with driving them forward towards implementation and completion while also navigating a complex, decentralized system where most projects involve multiple stakeholders across units outside of Enrollment Management.

The Director works collaboratively with Northeastern's international enrollment counseling/recruitment team and senior leaders in the Enrollment Management division, College Deans, Global Campus Deans, research and analytics, recruiting and marketing team members, and other leaders across all levels. Proven ability to work collaboratively across units and sensitivity and responsiveness to the needs of diverse constituencies is required.

Bachelor's degree required, and Master's degree preferred. Ideally at least 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in international higher education admissions/recruitment/partnerships with a deep understanding of the international enrollment cycles and uniqueness. Excellent communication and presentation skills, strong critical/logical thinking skills and highly adept at problem-solving. Ability to create, project manage and implement solutions that are operationally sustainable and outcome-focused in a complex environment. Experience working with diverse populations. Must be highly organized and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills as well as demonstrated creative and analytical abilities. Knowledge of higher education issues related to the enrollment of international students.
