About the Opportunity

The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of Network Engineer within the Communication Infrastructure team. This position will be responsible for all-things related to Campus Networks from the Access Layer to the Core, including Metro Area Campuses and Wide Area Networks. In addition, this roll will contribute in network documentation, creation of knowledgebase articles, and collaborating with the Customer Experience team to ensure proper support is maintained. Customer Experience is the first line of IT support for the university, and they will escalate to this role/team.

We are looking for a collaborative individual to work closely with both within ITS and Communication Infrastructure as well as with members of the University community to help provide the best experience for our students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate should possess skills in problem solving, architecture/design, training/documentation, delegation, and innovative thinking.

As a member of the larger Communication Infrastructure team, a successful candidate will provide network support in technologies supporting a diverse and increasingly digital environment.

To ensure that essential services are provided to the university community, the employee may be required to work outside his/her regular working hours and university holidays.

8am to 5pm Monday to Friday

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology related field or a minimum of 5 years of equivalent working experience in network engineering.
  • Working knowledge of packet flows traversing the access layer to network core.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing/supporting campus wireless, specifically controller-based architectures
  • Experience working in a higher education environment supporting faculty and students.
  • Working knowledge of fundamental LAN/WAN technologies and IP protocols such as TCP/IP networking (IPv4/IPv6), DNS, and DHCP.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting access layer to Network Core technologies.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Desire and ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment with faculty, staff, scientists, and students to achieve a common goal.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in troubleshooting multi-site campus networks related architectures.
  • Experience in building network configurations, troubleshooting network outages and managing network configuration changes.
  • Functional experience with campus network performance monitoring and benchmarking.
  • Experience in network security best practices related to Campus Networking.


Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Collaborate with the Customer Experience team to work through customer support tickets. Completes incidents and requests with established service level objectives. Build, configure and maintain lab equipment. Assist in maintaining inventory of readily available network parts. Process, monitor arrival and re-implement RMA's for non-functioning network gear.

Monitor and manage network performance through monitoring tools to ensure a healthy network. Work as an escalation point with Customer Service for any network related configuration, troubleshooting and network enhancements. Works with the tech lead to complete network projects pertaining to the Campus Network Function area. Maintains up-time of the network. Supports the community with new wireless networks for research areas, student wireless networks and standard Faculty and staff environments.

Deliver Consistent, Reliable and Scalable campus network services. Perform general network system and service-related tasks such as network configuration builds including building network Build SOP's and MOP's for repetitive functions such as new network closet deployments. Participate in our semi-annual software code upgrades.

Collaborate with CI Senior members on network projects. Develop proficiency in effectively using ITSM software. Maintain accurate and up-to-date network drawings. Improve skills through lab work and training.
The expected hiring range for this position is USD $123,395 to USD $160,410, based upon the position's scope and responsibilities.
