Job Description

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor in the Information Systems department, understand academic and business operations, implement, monitor, maintain, and enhance functions of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system; organize, coordinate, and schedule projects and work assignments to manage the integration and utilization of the ERP system; analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems to automate processing or to improve existing computer systems; develop test plans and strategies as a result of system changes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Work with appropriate college and District managers and staff to analyze current processes, develop solutions and configure systems to meet academic, business, and federal/state requirements.
  • Assist in understanding, re-engineering and streamlining complex processes and procedures to obtain optimum, reliable performance of ERP and associated systems. Analyze, communicate, and translate business and federal/state requirements into software requirements.
  • Act as liaison between system stakeholders, such as managers, faculty and staff, and the technical support teams including Information Systems and vendor staff.
  • Support the development, implementation, training, and maintenance of ERP systems.
  • Develop ERP training programs and documentation for faculty and staff.
  • Develop reporting strategies to meet District needs for operational, institutional research and predictive reporting.
  • Plan, organize, schedule projects and work assignments, and manage the integration and utilization of the ERP systems.
  • Work with ERP vendor representatives on the operation and performance of the ERP system.
  • Consult with user department personnel to analyze and define current procedures and recommend new or modified system requirements and feasibility.
  • Communicate with user department staff, vendors and information systems personnel to monitor accuracy and efficiency of systems and programs.
  • Provide leadership, oversight, technical assistance, work direction, and guidance for assigned personnel including Senior Analyst/Programmers and Analyst Programmers.
  • Advise in the development of requirements, evaluation, and/or selection of ERP systems or new modules. Make recommendations for new technology or alternative uses of existing technologies.


SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
  • Assist in the development of standards and procedures to obtain optimum, reliable performance of systems associated with ERP.
  • Participate in personnel selection and hiring processes as required.
  • Design data collection methods and report formats.
  • Establish controls and methods to monitor system and data integrity.
  • Participate in the preparation and accuracy of state and federal reports used for funding determination and compliance verification.
  • Provide information necessary to prepare system and program documentation and procedures.
  • Assist in the performance of daily operations.
  • Maintain departmental area(s) in a safe, clean and orderly condition; assure compliance with established safety procedures and regulations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Knowledge of, and current in, ERP system enhancements through self-study, attendance at ERP training sessions, and participation in vendor conferences
  • Understand District academic and business goals and objectives. Understanding of how the District's ERP system can assist in achieving these goals and objectives
  • ERP systems functions and features
  • District academic and business practices and processes
  • Principles and techniques of systems analysis and design.
  • SQL, relational database management systems and information technology tools
  • Methods and uses of information technology tools including: report writers, special programming tools, general use desk top programs
  • Principles and techniques of SQL, Unidata relational database management system (rdbms)
  • Principles and techniques of the operating systems including HP-UX and Windows
  • Technical area of computer science and project leadership
  • Operation, capabilities and limitations of computer equipment
  • Principles and practices of providing technical assistance, work direction and guidance


ABILITY TO:
  • Solve complex problems and analyze, design and implement complex computer systems and programs
  • Provide project leadership including project planning, coordination and reporting
  • Analyze user needs accurately and develop courses of action including effective systems and programs
  • Develop and implement related policies and procedures; research, compile, and analyze information/data, make recommendations, and prepare reports
  • Evaluate complex business problems and effectively communicate alternative solutions at the technical, user, and administrative levels
  • Provide functional and technical assistance to ERP system users
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines with frequently demanding time constraints
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution OR equivalent. Five years of increasing responsibility, relevant certification and public sector preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Information systems environment subject to lifting up to 50 pounds, moving and installing information technology equipment.
