Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Management the Director of Latinx Center serves as an integral member of the Student Affairs & Enrollment Management
( SAEM ) and participates with management to provide leadership, strategic planning, and works collaboratively with campus departments, and advisory committees. The primary purpose of this position is to develop and maintain programs that enhance Governors State University’s ability to recruit, retain and graduate Latinx students, working in collaboration with community organizations, faculty, staff, students, and administrators. This position creates services that close the educational equity gap and provides a safe space aimed at supporting the educational access, success, retention, and graduation pursuits of Latinx students. The Director will lead campus educational programs and services for Latinx students and promote the history and culture of Latinx people specifically placing emphasis on new immigrants, first-generation and non-traditional students.
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in a related discipline (Ethnic Studies, Latinx Studies, Education Leadership, Counseling, Sociology, etc.).
• Three (3) or more years of experience in designing, delivering, evaluating, and improving activities, programs and services related to institutional access, diversity, inclusion, and/or social justice in a higher education setting.
• Record of commitment and contributions to advancing college access and success for Latinx students.
• Demonstrated experience effectively working and establishing rapport with complex, dynamic, and intersectional identities of Latinx students.
• Bilingual required (English/Spanish).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience establishing new units, centers, or institute with a clear and well-defined mission and goals, as well as clear metrics for success.
