SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

Counseling staff provides clinical services to students and the campus community through a variety of methods. Counselors are considered generalists, although they may also have particular interests and areas of expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Counseling services may include, but are not limited to; individual counseling, group counseling, couples counseling, psycho-educational programs and workshops, crisis assessment and intervention, outreach programs, training, and consultation to students, staff, and parents.
  • Independently manages clients and case load, including use of Titanium© scheduling (with the assistance of the administrative assistant).
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provides psycho-educational workshops and outreach to the campus community on topics relevant to mental health, safety and well-being.
  • Provides consultation to students, faculty, staff, and parents.
  • Provides crisis assessment and intervention services.
  • Maintains current professional licensure and liability insurance.
  • Provides a collaborative team-based approach to clinical services in a fast-paced work setting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s Degree in mental health counseling, social work, psychology or related field or equivalent, including a supervised internship and 5 years’ experience in the mental health field, preferably in university or college counseling center setting
  • Active license in the state of Florida as a clinical social worker, mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist or psychologist. Crisis intervention experience and experience providing risk assessment and crisis response.
  • Knowledge of current diagnostic nomenclature
  • Experience with computer systems, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
CHARACTERISTICS PREFERRED
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to utilize good judgment in accordance with legal, professional, and ethical standards and College policy under potentially stressful conditions that may at times involve student threats to self or others.
  • Ability to multi-task and utilize good time-management skills.
  • Ability to interact and develop positive working relationships with students, faculty and other staff.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an ever changing and, on occasion, emotionally charged work environment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with a computer-based scheduling and documentation system such as Titanium© preferred.
  • Specialized certifications in CBT, DBT, Addictions, Trauma and other treatment modalities.
  • Supervisory experience – qualified supervisor in the state of Florida. Knowledge of community resources.
  • CPR and AED certified
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involved sitting most of the time and occasionally walking and standing.
Climbing, walking, crouching, repetitive motions, and ability to communicate appropriately with students/colleagues.
