The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication at High Point University is searching for a new colleague to teach in the Sport Management program. This non-tenure track position is open to candidates of all ranks and will begin August 2023.  The individual hired will be eligible for promotion and a multi-year, renewable contract. Consistent with tenure track expectations, our colleague will be expected to maintain an active research or professional development program and will be provided with funding to maintain a professional growth trajectory. 

 

The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate courses in sport management, such as Sport Law, Sport Marketing, Organizational Behavior in Sport Organizations, and/or other related classes. Depending on candidate qualifications, there will be an opportunity to add more specialized courses to the curriculum or teach in our innovative, new graduate program in Communication and Business Leadership. The regular teaching load at HPU is three, four-credit-hour courses per semester on a 9-month contract with the opportunity for summer teaching. Instructors teach a 4-4 load; professors-of-the-practice, who must have at least 15 years of progressively responsible sport management-related experience, teach a 3-3 load and carry additional administrative responsibilities such as advising one of the extracurricular initiatives offered within the sport management program. Faculty will also have the opportunity to teach study abroad courses.

Education

  • A Ph.D. in sport management or a related field, preferred A master’s degree in sport management or a related field with extensive professional experience may be considered.

 

Essential Functions

  • Mentor and advise undergraduate sport management majors   Serve as a faculty advisor for student internship experiences Maintain an active research or professional development program. Act as a representative and advocate for the program, school, and the university. Actively participate in committees within the department, school, and university. Undertake other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department chair.

Sport Management (SMG) at High Point University

The Sport Management program, housed in the Sport, Event, and Hospitality Management Department within the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication, has undergone tremendous growth and transformation in recent years and currently enrolls over 250 students. Our curriculum is designed to expose students to all facets of the sports world, with an emphasis on developing critical leaders in an ever-changing global industry.
