Slavery and Emancipation in the Atlantic World

 

The History Department at Wayne State University invites applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track professorship (open rank) in the history of Slavery and Emancipation in the Atlantic World, with a joint appointment in History and African American Studies, to begin August 2023. Specialization in the period before 1830 is preferred. The Departments seek candidates with an independent research agenda, with a preferred focus on slavery and emancipation in the Caribbean, Latin America, and/or transatlantic experience. Duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, and service, to be shared 50/50 between the two departments. Qualifications are a PhD in hand by August 2023. Rank of appointment will be commensurate with experience and publication record. This position is part of a large-scale cluster hire in Black studies that will bring 50 new tenure-track and tenured faculty members to Wayne State over the next three years.
