Description:
The Director, Research & Strategic Partnerships (Operations) develops, oversees, and analyzes all research-based operational budgets, pre-and post-award budgeting, processes, and outcome data at Pratt Institute. This research may come out of the Institute's strategic priorities, center-driven activities, or faculty-initiated projects.

The Director is expected to exercise initiative in doing this work, even as they function as part of a cohesive team in the Provost's office with common responsibilities ranging from research support and development for faculty, to archiving grants data.

In the process, our faculty, staff, and students lead research that deepens what we know about our world and the ways we engage within it. To support this work, the Division of Research & Strategic Partnerships within the Office of the Provost supports faculty in growing their research through seed grant competitions, grant proposal mentoring for submission, post-award budget management, possibilities for larger strategic partnerships, launching new research facilities. The goal is to meet faculty where they are as researchers, and support them with resources to imagine the future.

On a typical day you will be required to:
  • Leads the annual budget planning process for the research and strategic partnerships within all of academic affairs, for the Provost's Division.
  • Works with the Center Directors to manage and review restricted and operating budgets.
  • Works with the Grant Writer and Budget & Operations Assistant in the development of grants management processes within the Institute to assure that submission proposals and partnerships are:
    • well-documented and sustainably preserved,
    • accurate financially,
    • compliant with the regulations of the funding organization and Pratt Institute,
    • and transparent to both principal investigators and the Pratt leadership.
  • Works with Pratt administrators to oversee the implementation of policies, the use of technology to gather data, and the analysis of all outcome data to inform future process changes.
  • Develops and sustains relationships with Pratt faculty and staff, with the aim of understanding the range of work at the Institute (within e.g., schools, research centers, research groups), where support is needed, and how best to match needs with funding opportunities, particularly in government agencies at the city, state, and federal levels.
  • Manage and mentor the ongoing work and development of the Budget & Operations Assistant for Research & Strategic Partnerships.
  • Manages the hiring and ongoing development and mentorship of all graduate students for the Office of Research & Strategic Partnerships. Upholds Pratt's commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in seeking funding opportunities from diverse financing sources.


Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary range for this position is $103,000 - $123,600. This position will be hybrid and requires in person presence 2-3 days per week.


Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or higher, preferred.

Experience: Experience in grants management, and some history of obtaining and overseeing the post-award management of City, State, and federal government funding. Five to eight years of related experience in grants management, and a history of obtaining and overseeing the post-award management of New York City, New York State, and federal government funding, preferred.

Skills:
  • A proven initiator with demonstrated strong organizational, planning and interpersonal skills. Must be able to produce and manage multiple projects under deadline pressures and with keen attention to detail. Must demonstrate intercultural competence with an understanding of the importance of diversity in higher education.
  • Works well in a multi-disciplinary team to contribute to shared responsibilities as noted.
  • Excellent ability to formulate and work with budgets, strong research skills, ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community, and strong skill in developing and using databases and information visualization technologies.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office, Google Office Suite, and Adobe.
