The Health & Well-Being Institute ( https://extension.wisc.edu/health/ ) works to catalyze positive change in Wisconsin residents through evidence-based and community-engaged health promotion programs to improve health, build community capacity to identify and address health inequities, engage in collective action, and achieve greater health equity.

FoodWIse ( https://healthyliving.extension.wisc.edu/programs/foodwise/ ) advances healthy eating habits, active lifestyles and healthy community environments for families with limited incomes through nutrition education at the individual, community and systems levels.

FoodWIse is federally funded by the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program-Education (SNAP-Ed) and Expanded Food and Nutrition Program (EFNEP) grants.

About the position:

The Bilingual Nutrition Educator is a member of the Crawford, Vernon & Richland Counties FoodWIse team. Bilingual Nutrition Educators are peer educators who co-learn with community members and adapt teaching to honor cultures and experiences. Bilingual Nutrition Educators work collaboratively with community partners and engage people from the diverse communities of Wisconsin to adopt healthy food and physical activity habits.

Responsibilities:

Instructs and/or assists individuals and families engaged in various outreach programs. Delivers research-based educational programs to support and empower people where they live and work. Provides general support on public issues for the benefit of the community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.
  • 45% Teaches culturally relevant educational programs to adults and youth using learner-centered activities and lessons
  • 15% Implements initiatives and events that serve the target audience
  • 5% Procures and maintains course materials and supplies
  • 10% Tracks program evaluation and incorporates feedback for improvement
  • 5% Helps design marketing materials and promotions for programs
  • 5% Communicates plans, activities, and achievements to relevant stakeholder
  • 15% Teaches educational programs (in target language and English) and tailors educational approaches in a manner that is culturally responsive and linguistically appropriate for the target audiences' needs

Qualifications:

Required:
- Spanish speaking, writing and comprehension skills; knowledge and understanding of Hispanic/LatinX culture. Language skills will be evaluated.
- Ability to teach interactive lessons to youth and/or adults in group settings
- Work, volunteer or life experience with people or groups with limited income
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional work environments
- Ability to effectively work with people from different cultural backgrounds, including those associated with race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, socioeconomic status, age, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other aspects of human diversity.
- Demonstrated commitment to Extensions' values of equity and social justice to support opportunities and outcomes for youth, families, and communities.

Preferred:
- Volunteer or work experience related to food and nutrition education
- Experience managing multiple tasks, timelines, and schedules while maintaining high quality work
- Ability to work cooperatively with other agencies, community-based services, or organizations

Work Type:

Part Time: 80% - 90%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
