GENERAL SUMMARY: Provides education on a wide range of diversity, inclusion and community building efforts as a core team member of the campus-wide Gay Johnson McDougall Center for Global Diversity and Inclusion and the Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Center, and the Division of Equity and Inclusion within the guidelines of federal, state and local laws and office/center, division and college policies and procedures. Reports to the vice president for equity and inclusion and works with the CGDI's team, students, faculty, staff, student organizations, and other on and off campus constituents.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Supports Agnes Scott's strategic goals related to diversity and inclusion as outlined in the Agnes Scott College Strategic Plan 2021-2026: Pathway to Success .
  2. Conceptualizes, plans, and coordinates inclusive educational initiatives and trainings that affirm and support our diverse community at Agnes Scott College.
  3. Manages the Inclusive Leadership certificate program.
  4. Supervises the work of support staff fellows and advises student assistants.
  5. Serves as a resource to students on issues related to diversity, identity and inclusion, intercultural engagement, collaborating with a network of diverse colleagues in the CGDI and across campus.
  6. Collaborates with Student Affairs and meets bimonthly with their Leadership Council
  7. Collaborates with the Office of People and Culture on building a culture of community
  8. Coordinates signature CGDI programs including, but not limited to, Think Live Engage, SafeZone, the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Program; the COSMO Mosaic Banquet; and the bi-annual Gay Johnson McDougall Symposium on Race, Justice and Reconciliation.
  9. Advises the Coalition of Student Multicultural Organizations (COSMO).
  10. Supports the VPEI and AVP of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives and collaborates with Center colleagues in providing consultation and training regarding diversity-related issues to improve recruitment, support and retention of underrepresented student groups and to promote a culture of equity, inclusion and inclusive excellence on campus in related external engagement activities.


REQUIREMENTS

Education : Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in higher education, counseling or related field preferred.

Experience : 3-5 years of direct experience advising and supporting campus communities through programming that demonstrates an appreciation for concepts of diversity, inclusion, and community building; demonstrated ability to work in a diverse community and experience with gender equity efforts and practices; 2-3 years working on issues affecting underrepresented people/students; experience working and/or communicating across cultures and communities such as LatinX, Asian or Native American community; experience in marketing and/or outreach.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities :
  • As a bridge builder, this position is best suited for a self-motivated individual who is passionate about social justice and willing to engage in coalitional work to foster an inclusive campus climate.
  • Experience with employee development, program development and assessment.
  • Strong communication, planning and organizational skills and the ability to work independently and interdependently.
  • Demonstrated community and consensus building skills and conflict mediation.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills; good listening skills and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Awareness of the diverse perspectives that faculty, staff and students bring to their work and understanding of experiences deriving from race, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, ability, gender, religion, sexuality and other intersectional identities;
  • History of supporting underrepresented student populations, including international students, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, first-generation students, undocumented students and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse campus and community stakeholders and to collaborate and establish relationships with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with the current landscape of DEI efforts in higher education, student activities, student development, and student counseling.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and best practices for audience engagement.
  • Other : Irregular work hours including some evening and weekend programs that are consistent with student affairs positions nationwide.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and occasional moving of light objects. Majority of work is performed in an office.
