Overview

The Radiological Technologist provides digital radiography to the campus community on a per diem/as needed basis. Duties include diagnostic radiography, managing the PAC's system, pushing images to our local radiology consultant group for interpretation after a preliminary report is given by the University Health Service physicians and medical record release, and entering reports into the Electronic Medical Record. Radiology operational hours are M-F 8:45am – 5:00pm (1-hour lunch) and Saturdays 10:00am – 1:00pm.

Responsibilities

* Prepares patients for diagnostic x-ray exams, positions patients based upon the type of procedure to be
performed as dictated by the UHS procedure manual.
* Follows all protocol and radiation safety to all of our patients as dictated by the Department of Environmental Protection Agency (ALARA)
* Utilizes computer radiology, patient archive communication system and vpn switch
* Sends studies to local radiologist and/or hospital for interpretation via vpn
* Working with PRA/Penn Medicine Hospital radiologists for STAT x-ray reads as requested by a provider
* Maintains electronic health record for radiology services, manages PAC system and/or burning a CD as requested for referrals.
* Performs administrative functions associated with patient care provided; such as, maintaining the Medicat X-ray Monitor for the Electronic Health Record after study is completed, data entry and faxing the preliminary report to the radiologist.
* Performs emergent x-rays on football players during Saturday home football games (PU players and visitors); working hours are extended to meet with the end of the football game to ensure all players get adequate care
* Contributing to QC/QA tasks required for NJDEP
* Performs electrocardiograms and/or is trained by the Radiology Service Coordinator to perform electrocardiograms

Performs other duties and radiological tasks as assigned by the Radiology Coordinator (or Medical Director/Associate Medical Director/Assistant Medical Director when Radiology Coordinator is absent).



Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

* Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current New Jersey Licensure by the department of Environmental Protection Agency, Bureau of Radiological Health. Current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and is a member of the American Society of Radiologic Technologists.
* 3-5 year recent hospital diagnostic radiography experience preferred in computed radiology. Skills commensurate with formal training requirements. Ability to work independently and retain protocol of the organization
* Ability to work unbiased with a population diverse in its ethnicity, cultural backgrounds, and life-style preferences.
* Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
* Proficient use of computers, digital systems, scanning and electronic health records but will train the right candidate
* CPR/AED certification
* Bloodborne Pathogen Training
* Excellent communication skills: oral, written and listening.
* Ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Flexibility with schedule, must be available to work some Saturdays
* Ability to work independently and retain protocol of the department
* Dependability and attendance is critical

Preferred Qualifications

* Electrocardiogram experience a plus.
* Prior experience working in a hospital setting with orthopedic experience
* Ability to physically move non-ambulatory patients.
