The Department of Health Systems and Population Health in the School of Public Health at the University of Washington (UW) invites applications for one faculty position with a focus on Health Administration, Health Management, Health Economics, Health Policy, and/or Health Informatics at the rank of Assistant Professor (without tenure by reason of funding). This position is full-time (100% FTE) within a 12-month service period position. The base salary range for this position will be $9,167 – $12,500 per month ($110,004 – $150,000 per year), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include start-up funds, lump sum moving allowance and/or a relocation incentive. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to:

(a) Develop and conduct an independent externally funded research program, including preparing and submitting grants to federal and/or non-federal funding agencies (e.g., K-level Career Development Award, R-level grant), that complements Department, School, and University research initiatives and programs,

(b) Participate in collaborative, interdisciplinary research programs, as appropriate to their interests and experience,

(c) Complete manuscript preparation, submission, and publication in reputable journals in health services or related fields,

(d) Engage with health care stakeholders (e.g., health care delivery systems, policy makers) for scientific activities, communicate science to non-academic communities outside of scientific conferences and journals, and translate evidence to real-world decision making.

(e) Teach in the Department's Master of Health Administration (MHA) and other educational programs and mentor undergraduate, Master, and doctoral students.

(f) Articulate how diverse lived experiences influence scientific, teaching, and/or mentoring activities.

In addition, the successful candidate would be expected to participate in activities that support and advance the department’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), as well as regularly participate in University, School, Department, and Program activities such as engaging in governance, leading seminars, guest speaking, orientation(s), program and department faculty meetings, serving on key committees, mentoring and providing career development for diverse professionals and students, helping to continually update educational vision and strategy, graduation ceremonies, and relevant academic activities in the Department.

Qualifications

A doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Health or Business Administration, Health Management, Health Economics, Health Policy, Health Informatics, Public Health, Systems Engineering, or another relevant field.

Environment

The Department of Health Systems and Population Health (HSPop) is a diverse department (60 regular faculty and 280 adjunct, affiliate, and clinical faculty) with faculty expertise in health economics, health care systems, health promotion, social determinants of health, and social science. Two areas of focus are the Master of Health Administration (MHA) program and Master of Health Informatics & Health Information Management (HIHIM) program. The CAMHE accredited UW MHA and Executive MHA programs have been one of the country's leading health administration programs in the country since our founding in 1972 and our more than 1,800 alumnae serve in leadership roles in health care delivery and finance throughout the United States. Program faculty conduct research that has transformed health care and have developed an evidence-based competency model that guides our approach to instruction and training for our students. The MHIHIM program has a rigorous, competency-based curriculum that prepares students to lead in the health IT field. It is structured around five key pillars: Health Information Systems, Health Care Data Analytics, Information Governance, Patient and Organizational Information Privacy and Security, and Health Systems Leadership.

Successful candidates may have an opportunity to be affiliated with several centers within the department and University, including the Center for Health Innovation and Policy Science, the Anti-Racism and Community Health (ARCH) Center, the Health Promotion Research Center, the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice, and the Evans School of Public Policy and Governance.

The School of Public Health has five departments: Health Systems and Population Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Environmental and Occupational Health, and Global Health.
