Position Purpose
The Digital Collections Librarian works as part of the Digital by Dartmouth Library (DxDL) program, in collaboration with Dartmouth students, faculty, staff, and community partners, to develop digital collections and exhibits in alignment with the Dartmouth Library’s priorities and values. The Digital Collections Librarian will contribute to the design, creation and reuse of descriptive metadata and text markup, and is responsible for researching, selecting, and preparing materials to be added to the Dartmouth Library’s digital collections. The Digital Collections Librarian will additionally contribute to integrating digital collections into the Dartmouth curriculum, outreach to campus, local, and global communities, and managing the Dartmouth Library’s digital exhibit program.

Digital by Dartmouth Library (DxDL) is an inclusive community of experts, enthusiasts, and engagers in all things digital. The individuals who collaborate to create DxDL actively interrogate what the digital means and what possibilities it enables.

Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp
Masters or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
● Graduate degree in an area such as library and information science, public history, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
● Undergraduate degree and experience with primary source research.
● Minimum two years experience working on digital collections, digital humanities, or digital scholarship projects
● Familiarity with text markup languages such as HTML and XML and with metadata standards such as TEI, MODS, and Dublin Core
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills
● Demonstrated attention to detail
● Experience with team-based collaboration in a cultural heritage, non-profit, or academic environment
Preferred Qualifications
● Familiarity with user-centered design.
● Experience managing projects with a variety of stakeholders using standard project management techniques and tools.
● Working understanding of copyright law as it pertains to digital collections
● Experience with crowdsourced projects.
● Experience teaching workshops or class sessions.
● Experience writing for diverse audiences on the web.

Prepares and shepherds digital collections projects from initiation to completion. Develops inventories, collates existing metadata, coordinates handoffs between departments, and creates collection homepages. Assesses copyright status, user requirements, condition of items, level of description and scope and difficulty of projects. Builds connections between published and source collections.
