Associate Dean

Primary Purpose:
The Associate Dean in the Eberhardt School of Business (ESB) is a leader and champion in the areas of assessment, accreditation, and curricular innovation and is expected to be forward looking and action oriented in leading key internal and external programs and processes. The Associate Dean is a catalyst in the administration of academic affairs including but not limited to professional development, faculty advising, grades, the grievance process, decisions on complex petitions, academic probations and disqualifications, degree evaluations, and assists with re admission decisions, diversity and student success initiatives. The Associate Dean ensures outstanding service from the Dean's office to faculty, staff, and students. This is a full-time three-year renewable appointment.

Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean collaborates with the faculty to, (a) provide program leadership for degree programs to achieve high quality outcomes as measured through program assessment processes, (b) works with the faculty chair regarding governance and other issues, © works with faculty discipline‐area conveners on class schedules to recommend to the dean, (d) works with the Director of Assessment and faculty discipline‐area conveners in implementing Assurance of Learning (AOL) assessment processes, (e) serves in an advisory role on curricular issues and, (f), champions the ESB strategic planning processes.

Essential Functions:
  1. Develop and implement a process to invite applications from qualified individuals to create a part‐time faculty pool from which non‐tenure‐track faculty members can be hired.
  2. Oversees search processes for any full‐time non‐tenure‐track vacancies that might occur, and makes faculty hiring recommendations to the Dean.
  3. Works collegially with ESB staff while providing input and insight into plans, processes, and policy development to support the mission of the ESB.
  4. Collaborate with Student Services staff to make sure academic policies and procedures are implemented correctly and effectively.
  5. Serves as ESB representative on UOP Academic Regulations Committee.
  6. Works collegially and collaboratively with colleagues across campus, representing ESB as an active contributor to university initiatives.
  7. Works collegially with faculty to provide on-going support for scholarship/research efforts, teaching, and service responsibilities.
  8. Champions faculty excellence through feedback, professional development opportunities, and ongoing training. Develops junior faculty and provides tools for Promotion and Tenure dossier creation.
  9. Supports program leadership responsibilities, will participate in any current‐year new chair/program director orientation program and in subsequent chair/program director development meetings.
  10. Champions ESB’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives.
  11. Manages and reports on the ESB’s Faculty Mentoring Program.
  12. Observes classroom instruction of each tenure‐track faculty member, providing a written assessment and suggestions for continued development. Formally request from each tenured faculty member at least once, during each academic year of this appointment, an invitation to observe his or her classroom instruction and provide written assessment and suggestions.
  13. Supervises student course scheduling and manages registration and enrollment.
  14. Leads ongoing activities to improve faculty advising; resolves advising questions from faculty, students and others.
  15. Coordinates AACSB accreditation activities, including report preparation.
  16. Addresses complex student concerns related to academic progress via weekly office hours with students and in collaboration with relevant Student Life offices (Retention Services, Students with Disabilities, Housing, Athletics, etc.).
  17. Meets with other UOP Associate Deans as required.
  18. Addresses complex petitions for exceptions to stated academic policies; decides academic probations and academic disqualifications from the College
  19. Handles Change of Grade and Contract for Incomplete forms and assists with readmission decisions.
  20. Develops and supports programs for faculty professional development.
  21. Coordinates all student orientation and assists with yield and admission events, when applicable.
  22. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctoral Degree in a field related to education.
  • Experience with degree completion programs and alternative pathways through higher education.
  • Higher education leadership experience.

  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work performed during standard business hours.
