Housekeeper, Eden Hall

Chatham University's Eden Hall Campus is accepting applications for the position of Housekeeper.

The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of assigned buildings and areas, conducting set up and breakdown of spaces related to campus events, and supporting other general facilities needs as assigned.

Eden Hall is one of the first college campuses in the United States to be built from the ground up as a model for sustainable practices that avoid negative impacts on people and nature. The Housekeeper will be an important part of the campus team that ensures compliance with our sustainability goals and metrics and serves as an enthusiastic ambassador for Eden Hall's sustainability mission with students and campus guests.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned spaces, including:
    • Operate floor cleaning equipment.
    • Scrub, wet mop, strip, wax, polish floors.
    • Dust, clean, wash windows, doors, walls, furniture, woodwork, etc.
    • Clean bathrooms and associated accessories (toilets, showers, etc.).
    • Clean light fixtures and lenses.
    • Clean interior and exterior stairs and entrances.
    • Collec t and dispose of trash and debris.
  • Support basic operation of building spaces
    • Move furniture, heavy boxes of paper, empty and clean trash containers.
    • Replace lamps in light fixtures.
    • Replace ceiling tile in established drop ceilings.
    • Report known maintenance deficiencies.
  • Maintain inventory and supplies
    • Inventory, maintain and order supplies to ensure a smooth and efficient cleaning operation.
  • Maintain exterior spaces
    • Remove snow and ice from building entrances and immediate proximity walks.
    • Sweep the perimeter and the entrance of the building.
    • Periodically assist with basic landscaping maintenance.
  • Assist with special events set-up, break-down, clean up and related activities.
  • Assist in additional duties as required to carry out operations of campus buildings, grounds, and facilities as needed.
  • Opportunity to participate in the Eden Hall facilities after-hours, on-call rotation to address issues and emergencies that come up outside of normal working hours.
Qualifications
  • Must possess at least one year of experience in commercial cleaning.
  • Must possess a working knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, and techniques with a preference for experience with sustainable or 'green' practices and products.
  • Must be open to sustainable practices in cleaning and facilities management and serve as an enthusiastic team player in meeting the high standards for green practices at Eden Hall while serving as an ambassador for these practices with our students and university guests.
  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to understand and follow written and oral directives, complete tasks, work independently, and be team oriented.
  • Must have the attitude, emotional maturity, and temperament for work in a school setting with a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrated capacity to represent the University well in all interactions with students, parents, visitors, faculty, and other staff.
Physical Requirements:

Housekeeping can be physically demanding requiring lifting heavy weights up to at least 40 pounds, manually moving waste containers, equipment carts, and other items. Must be able to work on step-ladders. Must be able to work with hands and arms raised above the shoulders.
