Executive Director for On-Campus Living

Johns Hopkins University

Baltimore, Maryland

The Search

Johns Hopkins University (JHU) seeks an innovative, collaborative, and experienced student affairs professional to provide leadership and oversight for the newly created office of On-Campus Living. Serving as a strategic partner to the Assistant Vice Provost for Student Affairs and other members of the Student Affairs leadership team, the Executive Director for On-Campus Living will have an opportunity to shape and grow a recently reconfigured unit that incorporates undergraduate residential life and housing operations, an auxiliary unit generating approximately $30 million in annual revenue.

The Executive Director has a leading role in achieving the University’s overarching plans for community development in the residence halls, including the implementation of a comprehensive residential curriculum as well as residential facility capital projects. The Executive Director will have an opportunity to sustainably guide the Division’s growth in the coming years, working closely with leadership in facilities and student affairs to ensure the University’s physical expansion is complemented by the parallel and equally thoughtful development of programming that promotes community and academic engagement. At their core, these efforts must be designed to enhance the general health and well-being of the student body.

This position oversees a wide variety of programs and services over two distinct areas: Residential Life and Student Housing. The portfolio includes community life, housing administration, operating and capital budget management, assignments and occupancy management, marketing, assessment, assisting with summer conferences, facilities management, and emergency/crisis management. Along with two Director-level direct reports and one administrator, the Executive Director for On-Campus Living oversees 25 professional staff and approximately 115 residential and housing student staff. This position serves as a critical link to university offices and departments across campus. The Executive Director serves in an on-call rotation and the position is live-off.
