Director of Public Safety

The Director is responsible for the overall management of campus safety efforts at Alfred University, including parking and transportation, and the development and implementation of emergency and incident management plans for the safety and security of students, staff, faculty, and visitors, in accordance with the University's emergency response plan and the ICS. The Director is responsible for providing the supervision, training, and scheduling of all officers. The Director is also responsible for the development and enforcement of necessary policies related to parking and security of doors and buildings, including all facilities both on and off-campus. The Director is an on-call member of the Student Experience staff, responding to campus calls and emergencies as needed with senior leadership. The Director will participate in conduct hearings, as needed, and serve on various campus wide committees. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and verbal communications and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements:

• Formal Education: The Director of Public Safety must have a minimum of an earned Bachelor's Degree in Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, etc. or significant experience in the field.
• Experience:
  • The Director must have prior experience in the field of Campus Safety/Student Affairs and as a supervisor of staff, preferably at the Director or Assistant/ Associate Director level, and be able to manage and direct a staff of NYS certified Campus Safety Officers, and internal staff, in order to maintain competent 24-hour coverage in a University setting.
  • The Director must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and have a working knowledge of technology used in the profession.
  • NYS Security, NIMS/ICS, CPR, and AED certification are needed.
  • Training available for the right fit/candidate.
