Associate Dean for CPS Faculty Affairs
About the Opportunity
Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies (CPS) invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs. CPS seeks a strategic leader to guide faculty affairs within the College with a commitment to academic, student-centered excellence. This role reports to the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the College of Professional Studies.
The College of Professional Studies offers programs in a range of disciplines and areas in Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral programs. With over 2000 courses and 4000 sections offered each year, CPS has over 1,200 part-time faculty, and over 110 full- and half-time faculty that serve a unique community of international, professional, virtual, and returning learners. This position will coach and build a strong community of faculty that transform the lives of a community of diverse students.
Responsibilities Include:
25% Faculty Development
- Manage implementation of faculty professional development programs and initiatives and committees, as directed by the Senior Associate Dean.
- Developing and coordinating programs to improve skills in educational strategies and leadership for all faculty
- Fosters academic leadership development across the college
25% Faculty Recruitment & Retention
- Manage policies and procedures that would enable CPS to attract, hire, retain, and develop diverse faculty across all programs
- Active support and consulting with CPS DEI representatives, lead faculty and faculty directors in recruitment and retention of diverse faculty across the global network
- Oversee and manage faculty orientation and onboarding, training, and support
- Develop faculty hiring processes aligned to need and academic operations metrics (i.e., optimal faculty number in program areas based on enrollments, program factors, strategic purpose, on-site, virtual, etc.)
25% Faculty Promotion & Evaluation
- Manages faculty process & policies related to faculty promotion and evaluation, ensuring aligned to the Office of the Provost and Faculty Handbook guidelines
- Serve as the Dean's representative on the college committees on faculty promotion
25% General Faculty Issues, Policies, & Activities
- Develop and manage virtual communities that can support faculty across domains and create a sense of belonging and support within Northeastern CPS
- Implements processes for handling faculty concerns and grievances when unable to resolved at the faculty lead or director level
- Oversees faculty leave programs
- Maintains communication and works collaboratively with other units on campus on faculty affairs related issues
- Assists faculty when faculty/faculty or faculty/supervisor conflicts arise
- Responsible for providing education and support to leads and directors concerning faculty governance policies and processes
- Provide guidance and support on faculty and academic governance relative to university, college, and regulatory guidelines and policies on areas such as workload, hiring, promotion, research, etc.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A terminal degree with significant experience and progressive roles in academic administration at an accredited institution.
- Experience in developing faculty communities of virtual, hybrid, regional and program-centered faculty groups, specifically with online program development and teaching.
- Experience in developing and managing part-time and non-tenured full-time faculty, setting academic policy, workload planning and related procedures,
- Experience in data-informed decision making and instructional strategies for on-campus, hybrid, and virtual programs.
- Deep experience in coaching and developing faculty in a range of areas from teaching, instruction to research and experiential learning.
- A demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse educational environment and an ability to work with a diverse student and faculty population.
- Evidence of competencies related to mediating and navigating complex organizational cultures within higher education settings.
- A record of effective teaching that evidences a commitment to innovative pedagogy and serving diverse learning populations.
- Passion for student success, with an insight- and data-driven approach to supporting faculty in playing a significant role to achieve scaled programs with exceptional quality.
