The School of Information Sciences (iSchool) at the University of Illinois invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at all ranks (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor). We especially welcome applications in the broad areas of inclusive design, accessible technology and ability-based design for, with, and by people with disabilities. Disabilities include different kinds of impairments such as sensory, physical, or cognitive, that may be permanent, progressive (e.g., due to aging or illness), temporary, or situational. The research topics include but are not limited to:

  • Participatory design, co-design, action research or other research methods directly involving people with disabilities
  • Inclusive design and research that would lead to direct impacts for the targeted communities of disabilities
  • Information behavior of people with disabilities
  • Accessibility related adoption, learning and use especially in the context of Virtual/Mixed/Extended/Augmented Reality and Games
  • Critical approaches to technology design with and by people with disabilities

Preference will be given to candidates whose research engages in issues of accessibility as social justice and/or work with communities that have been historically underserved.

Our doctoral degree in Information Sciences builds on a long tradition that includes the oldest LIS doctoral program in the country and the top-ranked professional master's program in library and information science. We also offer professional master's programs in information management and bioinformatics, a licensure program in school librarianship, as well as an interdisciplinary, STEM-designated undergraduate degree in information sciences.
