Job Summary
Under general supervision of designated supervisor, or working independently on revolving shift, to perform duties related to the proper operation and maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant, swimming pools,distilled/deionizer water systems, and associated equipment, reading of utility meters, and billing.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
•Knowledge of water analyses and chemicals used in water treatment, testing, and reactions as applicable.
•Ability to analyze charts and maintain appropriate records.
•Willingness to work revolving shift and to fill in for absent worker.
•Adequate vision and color perception for conducting of tests.
•Must be willing to take additional training and learn new skills to become a certified Water Works Operator.
•Read and interpret gauges and recording devices reflecting plant operations.
•Maintain and adjust water treatment equipment.
•Keep records and prepare reports.
•Understand and carry out oral and written directions.
Essential Job Functions
•Operate water treatment plant and water distribution systems to provide safe, potable water for domestic use, and an adequate quantity at sufficient pressure for fire protection, insuring conformance to the Environmental Protection Agency and the Mississippi Water Supply and Pollution Control Commission standards.
•Operate valves and other controls to feed chemicals into water.
•Read charts and gauges and maintain a log of plant operations during assigned shift.
•Assist in periodic maintenance work, including disassembly and repair of pumps, valves, flow-rate controllers, chemical dispensers, bar screens, collectors, and other plant equipment.
•Oil, grease, and clean equipment.
Qualifications
•Completion of courses in water treatment chemistry and biology.
•Operation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment plant equipment.
•Three years of experience in the operation of mechanical equipment used at water plants.
