Assistant Director for Student Outreach, Opportunity Program

The Assistant Director for Student Outreach provides vital leadership to the Skidmore College Opportunity Program (OP), a program designed for economically and academically disadvantaged students and a source of student diversity for the College. The Assistant Director manages a portfolio of OP programs and initiatives which support the institutional enrollment goals and Skidmore’s Strategic Plan . The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and delivery of personal, social, and academic support for and advising of OP students; the organization of the mentoring program; and the collection and reporting of data needed for the New York State Department of Education and the Kettering Foundation. This position is in band 150 of Skidmore's compensation structure.

The Assistant Director is also responsible for:
  • Coordinating the admissions component of OP, which includes all outreach and recruitment efforts.
  • Supporting students as they submit their applications, reading applications, and collaborating with the Director to make determinations for admission.
  • The Assistant Director coordinates and assesses the Summer Academic Institute (SAI), a five-week summer bridge program designed to deliver a high-quality pre-college academic experience for students, introduce them to the rigors of the Skidmore curriculum, and facilitate their immersion into the Skidmore and Saratoga Springs communities.
  • The successful candidate will hire and train the summer staff, communicate with the incoming students, and collaborate with a range of offices to ensure the program’s success.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must be committed to equality, diversity, inclusion, access, and success; have a strong understanding of issues related to underrepresented students in higher education; and be familiar with best practices for ensuring the success and retention of underrepresented students. Effective project/program coordination techniques and exceptional interpersonal, communication, analytical, and customer service skills are necessary. The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team, be willing to travel throughout New York and Ohio, and work outside of a normal workweek.

Education: Master’s degree in a related field is required, with a minimum of five years of professional experience in higher education. Experience with advising undergraduate students from underrepresented populations, familiarity with college access programs, and participation in the college admissions process, including the reading of applications, are highly desirable.

Pay Range: Commensurate with experience. This position is in band 150 of Skidmore's compensation structure.
