Reporting to the Director, Parent and Family Giving, the Sr. Associate Director, Parent and Family Giving develops and promotes giving among Skidmore’s parents and families. They are responsible for managing annual fund strategies and results for parent and family giving through the Skidmore Fund. The Sr. Associate Director is also responsible for collaboratively staffing the Parent and Family Council with the Director, as well as managing the Senior Family fundraising effort. Collaboration is very important in this role as the Sr. Associate Director works closely with colleagues across Advancement focused on building relationships and soliciting parents. They develop relationships with an assigned group of parent and family volunteers and prospective donors; identifying capacity, interests, and inclination, educating and cultivating these individuals, soliciting gifts, and stewarding donors and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. The Sr. Associate Director works with the Director of Parent and Family Giving to manage a solicitation and stewardship plan, working with key volunteers, campus partners, and colleagues in Advancement to be sure goals are met (current target is 25% of the $8M+ Skidmore Fund goal).
  2. Analyze data, trends, and ensure best practices in parent and family giving to strengthen and grow Skidmore’s efforts.
  • Focus on meeting goals and project deadlines; must demonstrate an ability to anticipate challenges and adjust schedules accordingly.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director, Skidmore Fund Direct Marketing to create a specific direct marketing plan (print and electronic appeals, social media) that ties into the overall Skidmore Fund direct marketing program.
  • Identify, recruit, train, mentor, and support a team of fundraising volunteers.
  • Communicate effectively the importance of giving and explain the complexities within the context of overall Advancement efforts.
  • Serve as the primary contact for volunteer chair(s).
  • Oversee and co-manage all aspects of the Parent and Family Council, including two meetings yearly.
    • Coordinate two on-campus meetings each academic year, October at Celebration Weekend and in the spring, including setting the agenda, managing all meeting logistics, participant invitations, coordinating and preparing campus partners and oversee all meeting follow up.
    • Manage volunteer interests of the Parent and Family Council members, finding ways to sync their interests with needs across campus in Admissions, Career Development, fundraising, and in the classroom.
  • Co-direct the annual Senior Family Project campaign including oversight of the volunteer leadership committee, goal setting, solicitation plan, and tracking of major gift asks to be sure they are completed.
    • Identify and recruit volunteer chairs and leadership committee in partnership with Director, Parent and Family giving and Prospect Development.
    • Develop overall strategy and ensure the Senior Family fundraising effort meets or exceeds annual goals. Focus is on developing solicitation and stewardship plan, and working closely with colleagues – including MGOs who are relationship managers for the majority of leadership prospects in the class – to ensure goals are met.
    • Ensure frequent communication and engagement by committee members in the Senior Family project’s outcome. Work with them to identify the project that the fundraising effort will support.
    • Work with the Associate Director, Skidmore Fund Direct Marketing to create a direct marketing plan (print, email, web, and social media).
    • Report accurate and timely results.
    • Work with Alumni Relations and College Events on all relevant events.
  • Responsible for developing philanthropic relationships with an assigned group of volunteers and prospects (60+); identifying capacity, interests, and inclination, educating and cultivating these individuals, soliciting gifts, and stewarding donors and volunteers appropriately. Dollar-goal to be identified annually.
  • The Sr. Associate Director takes on additional duties as assigned by the Director, Parent and Family Giving.


  • Education : Bachelor’s degree required

    Experience : 5+ years of increasing, directly related or applicable experience.

    Fundraising within higher education or non-profit setting. Recruiting, developing, and motivating volunteers. Willingness to personally develop philanthropic relationships with prospective donors and volunteers. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be highly organized with superior interpersonal skills. Expert with handling multiple projects simultaneously.

    Pay Range: Commensurate with experience
