The College of Sciences and Mathematics ( COSAM ) at Auburn University is seeking an Assistant Director of Academic Advising to manage and direct the academic advising unit within the Student Services office. COSAM is a diverse college that serves the over 2900 COSAM students plus management of the Auburn University students enrolling in COSAM courses.

Essential Functions
  • Direct and oversee the daily operations of the academic advising unit in COSAM
  • Supervision of the academic advisors as well as any advising support staff
  • Evaluates, reviews, and implements best practices relating to student academic advising in the COSAM unit.
  • Oversees student orientation programs such as Camp War Eagle and SOS .
  • Provide services for special populations such as transfer students, underserved students, athlete approvals, veteran benefit approvals, and students with academic challenges (i.e. early alert grades).
  • Assessment of current programs offered by COSAM academic advising for efficacy in retention, student satisfaction, and recruitment efforts.
  • Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to increase opportunities for student engagement within academic programs.
  • Direct student informational programs, workshops, or classes to provide information related to academic programs and academic advising policies and procedures.
  • Assists the Director with meeting prospective students and other visitors to the College.
  • Serve as a representative for the academic advising unit for COSAM across campus and in professional organizations
Minimum Education and Experience

Education Level

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university

Field of Study

Education, Business, Psychology, Counseling, Communications, the Sciences, or related field.

Academic Advising and Student Services. Three years of experience must be in academic advising in a higher education environment.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Candidates must have experience is supervising employees. In addition knowledge of academic advising principles and practices. Candidates must have a commitment to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and diverse community for the student services office. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are required. Candidates must also possess a commitment to fostering a team environment.

Minimum Technology Skills

Candidates should have experience with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Advise Assist, DegreeWorks, and/or similar degree auditing programs.

A master’s degree in Education, Business, Psychology, Counseling, Communications, the Sciences or related field is desired.
