The anticipated hiring range for this position is $80,000 – $92,000.
The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Information Technology Services ( ITS ) Business Operations, the Software Asset Manager will guide the daily and strategic lifecycle management of software assets and licensing across campus. You will collaborate with faculty and staff to evaluate software tools, manage software spending, identify distribution models and maximize the return on software spending for the institution.

Duties/Responsibilities

30% Compliance
We will ask you to lead the analysis and ongoing design of software asset management, compliance and license management processes for the University. You’ll document definitions, processes, and workflows. Conducting internal and external software audits and addressing remediation activities are part of your responsibilities.

30% Reporting
You will develop software reporting models in TeamDynamix, configuring license types and ensuring license entitlements are captured relative to contractual commitments and usage rights. You will ensure software purchases are updated in our ITSM tool and track deployments for end-users. We will ask you to create and distribute compliance reports.

30% Lifecycle Management
Working with faculty and staff, you will review software usage, research alternative solutions and identify opportunities for cost savings. As an active member of the MSU Denver Change Advisory Board ( MCAB ), you will lead resolution of incidents affecting software solutions and be involved as change requests warrant updates to the asset management database. As the need for new solutions arises, you will contribute to the procurement process. You will review upcoming renewals for renegotiation opportunities and retire software assets as tools are no longer in use. Within ITS, you will work with the Security team to evaluate contract terms and conditions and the Systems Engineering to develop distribution plans and track assets.

10% Special Projects
At the Director’s discretion, you’ll be asked to take on projects that support our teams, develop our culture and give you and opportunity to grow in your role.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university*
  • 3+ years relevant experience with software asset management
  • Experience negotiating and administering enterprise agreements (Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe) and licensing models from other publishers
  • Experience with an ITSM platform with Asset Management and Configuration Management databases
*2 years of related work experience is equivalent to one year of education

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Computer Science, Information Technology or related field
  • IT Asset Management certifications such as CITAM or CSAM
  • ITIL V4 Foundation certification
  • 5+ years relevant experience with software asset management
  • Experience with Asset Management and Configuration Management within TeamDynamix
  • Professional experience in a higher education environment

Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm; hybrid schedule available
