Salary for Announcement

The salary range for this position is $60,000 – $62,000 at Assistant Professor rank. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.

Position Summary

The Department of History at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at assistant professor level in Asian History. This is a nine-month appointment beginning August 2023. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Chinese history, Japanese history, Asian Studies, or closely related field. We welcome candidates with research interests in Mongolia, ancient and classical China, and medieval Korea and/or Japan. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a proven ability to teach undergraduate courses, particularly in world history, medieval world history, and Asian studies.

Duties/Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to teach a range of introductory world surveys and Asian history, broadly. The successful candidate may also be expected to teach upper-division courses in Chinese and Japanese history, as well as courses that meet the needs of the department.

The position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching a diverse student body; student advising activities; scholarship; and service within the university, the profession, and community.

Required Qualifications

PhD in Chinese history, Japanese history, Asian Studies, or closely related field. PhD must be conferred by July 2023.

  • Demonstrated experience teaching and being sensitive to the needs of a diverse urban student population, including (but not limited to) students from marginalized, traditionally underrepresented populations, LGBTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners
