Position Function:

The CACREP accredited Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (CMHC) at Mississippi State University seeks applicants to join our full-time faculty for one vacant non tenure-track assistant teaching professor position, beginning fall 2023. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program was accredited as a Community Mental Health Counseling program in 1991 and was renamed as a Clinical Mental Health Counseling program in January of 2014. Currently the School, Clinical Mental Health, and Counselor Education and Supervision programs are accredited by CACREP until October 2030. The Rehabilitation Counseling program is accredited by CACREP until 2025. The program is based on the scientist-practitioner model. Students obtain Doctoral and Master’s degrees in the relevant program areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• This position will involve teaching, service, and program support through our Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology and Foundations.
• Primary responsibilities will include:
o Graduate teaching (with the possibility of occasional undergraduate teaching) in both the CMHC and rehabilitation counseling (RC) programs.
o Graduate advising and mentoring.
o Practicum and internship supervision.
o Program planning and development.
o Participation in the CACREP accreditation process.
o Engaging in professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Doctorate in counseling with a concentration in clinical mental health counseling or other closely related counseling specialty.
• Doctoral degree from a recognized CACREP accredited counseling program.
• LPC licensed in the state of Mississippi or elsewhere by the time of appointment.
• ABDs will be considered if the degree will be completed by time of appointment (i.e. August 16, 2023).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification
• Evidence of excellence in teaching and service.
• Approved Clinical Supervisor (i.e., LPC-S)
• Theoretical orientation consistent with a counselor education framework
• Experience or familiarity with the CACREP accreditation process
• Excellence in teaching clinical and rehabilitation counseling courses for diverse student population(s) in university settings
• Excellence in service to the department, university and professional organizations
• Administrative and professional experiences related to counseling.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience with instructional technology (instructional software, learning management systems such as Canvas).
• Ability to teach in traditional and non-traditional formats and settings (on-campus, off-campus, evenings, online).
• Capacity to engage in professional service, leadership, and advocacy.
• Skills in integrating advocacy, social justice, cultural competence, and ethical practice into classroom instruction. Working collaboratively with faculty across disciplines.
