The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECEN) Program (https://www.qatar.tamu.edu/programs/ecen/) of Texas A&M University at Qatar invites applications for an instructional assistant professor position in the area of computer engineering. This non-tenure track position assumes a 9-month academic appointment with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2023. The ECEN Program is fully committed to a culturally and academically diverse faculty. Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) is a partnership with Qatar Foundation. Established in 2003, TAMUQ offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemical, Electrical and Computer, Mechanical, and Petroleum Engineering and a Master's Program in Chemical Engineering. The degree programs are identical to those of the main campus at College Station, Texas. A Texas A&M University diploma is awarded to graduates.

Doha is the home of Education City (https://www.qf.org.qa/education/higher-education), a dedicated campus devoted to research and education. In addition to TAMUQ, Education City campus hosts other academic institutions including Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, Carnegie Mellon University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northwestern University, University College London, and Georgetown University. The Electrical and Computer Engineering faculty have established strong educational and research programs on a foundation of core engineering disciplines. There is significant support in Qatar for research through funds from Qatar National Research Fund and Industry.

Texas A&M University at Qatar offers competitive salary packages commensurate with rank and experience. The package includes housing, annual home leave allowances, dependent education, local transportation allowance, medical insurance for employees and dependents, plus appropriate relocation and repatriation expenses. Faculty members are also eligible for professional development funds to help them with teaching and curriculum development.

Qualifications

The candidate should possess a doctorate degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Applicants must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. degree by the time of the start date. The successful candidates are expected to have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level and a strong dedication to carrying out service activities.

Preference will be given to applicants familiar with the U.S. higher education system, with excellent expertise in computer engineering and programming and outstanding teaching experience in well-respected universities. The 9-month appointment includes a 3-3 teaching load during the Fall-Spring semesters. The successful applicant will also be expected to teach two courses during the summer semester for an additional 3 months of salary.

The applicant's primary responsibility will be teaching courses in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Candidates in all areas will be considered, but those in areas of computer engineering and programming are particularly encouraged to apply. This position assumes only teaching and service duties and does not assume research activities. Applicants should have solid programming skills (Python, C, C++, Java, VHDL or Verilog, etc.) and be capable of teaching Phyton, C, Computer Programming and Architecture, Digital Systems Design, Computer Architecture and Design, and Microprocessor Systems Design. Experience with PLAs, ARM Cortex-M and embedded microprocessor platforms, computer architectures is required.  Applicants who can offer new undergraduate courses such as App development for iOS and Android, programming of machine learning (AI) applications, and computer networks represent a plus.
