Position Description 

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Fontbonne University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics & Statistics to begin August, 2023. The successful candidate should demonstrate the ability to bring excellence and innovation into the classroom, contribute to scholarship in their field, and participate effectively in professional service. Teaching responsibilities include 12 credits of a combination of undergraduate and graduate courses per semester, which may include mentorship of student research. 

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Fontbonne University offers five B.S. degrees: Applied Mathematics, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Data Science, and Management Information Systems. In addition, it offers M.S. degrees in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Data Science. The B.S. degrees in Computer Science and Cybersecurity are ABET accredited. 

The newly hired faculty member will teach courses in mathematics and statistics.

Qualifications

Required:

·        Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or closely related field

·        Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching at the university level

·        Ability to teach courses across the field of mathematics and statistics

·        Demonstrated potential to contribute to scholarship in the field

·        Ability to assume department and university responsibilities, such as advising students, directing student research projects, supervising internships and participating in university governance

·        Commitment to working with diverse learners and communities, including first-generation students and students from under-represented groups

 

Preferred:  

·        Experience teaching as a full-time faculty member

·        Ability to teach the following courses and others as needed:

-        Introduction to Statistics

-        Fundamentals of Algebra

-        College Algebra

-        Precalculus

-        Calculus I, II, & III

-        Discrete Mathematics

-        Linear Algebra

-        Differential Equations

-        Advanced Statistics

-        Probability Theory
