Position Description Summary/Purpose :

This position provides pedagogical support and related technology to faculty, including online courses and materials that reinforce student satisfaction with active and adaptive, collaborative learning; student success; and retention of a diverse population of learners.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities :

  • Designs and develops online courses.
  • Designs and conducts instructional technology workshops and presentations for faculty.
  • Provides online and in-person faculty training and coaching in instructional design and best practices for online learning.
  • Creates a culture of widely shared technology-enhanced, effective teaching and learning practices
  • Helps the University identify a set of best practices that work for the college’s students and aligns instructional development activities in support of those best practices, such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Designs and maintains the faculty resource site and Online Studies Web Pages.
  • Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions :
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
Knowledge, Ability and Skill :
  • Expertise applying learning theory and pedagogical best practices
  • Expertise applying instructional design processes and quality benchmarks to course development
  • Expertise using a learning management system
  • Working knowledge of emerging technologies and strategies for successful integration into teaching and learning
  • Familiarity with and ability to train faculty in the use of a wide range of teaching-learning technologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications, Adobe Creative Suite, Blackboard Learning Management System, Databases, Course Management Systems
  • A solid working knowledge of instructional design principles and a rich understanding of web design and coding to develop and maintain the Universities faculty resource site.
Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience :
  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience as an instructional designer, preferably in a setting with a diverse learner population
  • Knowledge of HTML, XML, CSS and JavaScript
