Speech-Language Pathology, Full-time, Tenure-Track, Assistant/Associate Professor-APS

Position Announcement:

The College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma seeks to appoint a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Speech-Language Pathology. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing discipline specific instruction in graduate and undergraduate courses, clinical supervision, and administrative duties as the UCO Program Coordinator/CAA Program Director. For Associate Professor rank, the candidate will possess experience and an Associate rank in an accredited Speech-Language Program.

Position Overview:

Teaches, advises, and mentors students; evaluates student performance; and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Collects data and prepares reports as required by the university and accreditation association. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty and coordinators. Serves on department, college, and university committees. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. The position will begin in August 2023.

College/Department Overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 20 undergraduate and 29 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP-accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Discipline specific instruction in courses may require a variety of formats (face-to-face, hybrid, and online). Clinical supervision requires continuing education in supervision as a distinct discipline and experience in scaffolding instruction and mentoring novice clinicians. Duties in teaching and clinical supervision include providing a quality learning experience: teaching, advising and mentoring students; evaluating student performance; and maintaining program/department and student records in accordance with university policies. The candidate will mentor graduate students in research activities involving single-subject studies as a capstone to the program. Additionally, the faculty member may mentor undergraduate and graduate research activities, culminating in presentations at conferences. Program Coordinator/CAA Program Director duties include day-to-day management of the program as well as activities and documentation necessary for ongoing CAA accreditation. Duties include undergraduate and graduate advisement and permissions; graduate admissions; curriculum coordination; course development; staffing and scheduling; coordination of program assessment; tracking student data; completing and submitting college, university, and CAA reports; and so forth.

Experience Required:

An earned Ph.D. degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement. Must demonstrate evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence. Must be professionally qualified under ASHA with CCC-SLP certification, hold or be eligible for Oklahoma licensure, and have a minimum of two years of experience and the ability to maintain ongoing professional credentials. Must possess excellent communication skills and skills in team building, coaching, mentoring, supervision, conflict resolution, organization, delegation, problem-solving, and understanding diversity. The candidate for Associate Professor rank will possess experience at the rank of Associate Professor in a CAA accredited Speech-Language Program.

Experience Preferred:

An earned PhD is preferred. Previous teaching experience in a higher education environment is preferred. Experience in administrative duties in a CAA accredited program is preferred. Current research line or potential to develop a line of research is preferred.
