Position Purpose
The Communications Manager develops, implements, and maintains a strategic communications program to maximize the visibility and impact of the Library’s contributions to Dartmouth’s mission. The Communications Manager provides leadership and oversight to a wide range of institutional and external communications activities across print and digital channels, including social media.
This position is a full-time, three-year appointment open to negotiating a hybrid work environment

Bachelor's degree
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
· Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field and at least 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
· Experience developing and executing an organizational communications and social media strategy
· Superior writing, story development, proof-reading and editorial skills
· Experience in communications, branding/messaging, and creating an organizational identity
· Ability to transform goals, missions and services into clear and relevant messages for internal and/or external stakeholders
· Demonstrated innovative and strategic thinking
· A collaborative team player with exceptional interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
· Demonstrated ability in overseeing the design and production of print, web, and social media publications
· High proficiency and experience with Apple OS, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Microsoft Office
· Understanding of academic environments

Description
Communications Strategy : Works closely with library leadership to identify communications goals, define key messages, and prioritize communications and outreach strategies.

Description
Content Creation : Conceives, creates, and curates compelling content across multiple platforms and audiences. Collaborates with library staff and campus partners to gather content and craft narratives about library services, resources, collections, and projects. Coordinates with the Library’s graphic designer, web developer, and other staff to integrate design, photography, and videography to create strong multimedia storytelling.

Editorial Oversight : Coordinates and manages the Library’s presence and messaging, ensuring cohesive branding, style, and voice across all content and channels. Advises library staff on the production of publicity materials for events and exhibits. Proofs all publications and approves them for printing or web publication.

Media and Public Relations : Serves as the Library’s media relations contact, working with library leadership and the Dartmouth Office of Communications on key messaging and public relations efforts. Takes initiative in suggesting and drafting news items or stories that increase the visibility and impact of the Library’s activities and programs.

Description
Donor Communications : In conjunction with library leadership, contributes to the Library’s fundraising, development and stewardship efforts through writing and editorial support. In liaison with the Advancement Division, develops targeted proposals that appeal to donor interests in support of the Library’s strategic objectives and priorities. Writes, edits, and designs the semi-annual library stewardship newsletter.
