Summary: The Chairperson/Program Director for the Masters in Physician Assistant Studies is responsible for the attainment and maintenance of accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The Chairperson will be assisted in this effort by the Medical Director, Academic Director, Clinical Director and faculty. The Chairperson is responsible for Program organization, administration, fiscal management, ongoing review and analysis, planning, and development.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Share with the School Dean and department members the
responsibility for faculty and staff recruitment, hiring,
mentoring, and professional development within the department
- Assume responsibility for the orientation of new
employees
- Provide evaluative feedback to adjuncts and to participate with
the School Dean in providing annual evaluations of faculty and
staff.
- Be responsible for conducting business within the department,
leading department meetings, and communicating information about
program and administrative information from School Dean
- Provide leadership for program development
- Be responsible for the curricular quality, effectiveness, and
outcomes with the program
- Coordinate annual and long-range planning with department
faculty and the School Dean
- Provide input into the budgetary needs of the department and
supervise all expenditures of the approved budget
- Provide leadership for departmental specialized accreditation
and university regional accreditation.
- Assist in identifying, recruiting, and securing clinical sites
for the Program.
- Coordinate program assessment, program review, and ARC-PA
accreditation reports
- Plan the course offerings of the department in consultation
with department faculty and School Dean, and make teaching
assignments
- Collaborate with marketing and admission to promote the
program, recruit new students, and maintain a full complement of
students enrolled in the program
- Be responsible, with other members of the department, for the
acceptance or non-acceptance of students who have expressed an
intention to the PA program
- Monitor student progress in the major and assist with student
issues
- Work with faculty to develop and implement student retention
plans
- Represent the Program to the community and healthcare
organizations.
- Develop and maintain an advisory board for the program
- Collaborate with the Office of the President, Institutional
Advancement, and other departments to enhance corporate, employer,
alumni, and other stakeholder relationships, thereby developing
additional resource opportunities
- Teach in areas of expertise
- Other duties as assigned
- Nationally certified (NCCPA) physician assistant with a
master’s degree (doctorate preferred) and eligibility for Ohio
state licensure or allopathic or osteopathic physician who is
certified by an ABMS- or AOA-approved specialty board.
- Working knowledge of the ARC-PA accreditation process.
- Previous clinical and academic experience is required.
- Academic administration experience is desirable.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven organizational ability.
- A demonstrated ability and commitment to diversity, equity, and
