The Oxbridge Honors Program, the flagship honors program of William Jewell College, seeks applications for the position of Senior Tutor, the program’s leader.

The OHP, endowed by the Hall Family Foundation, offers study using the British tutorial system leading to a major in one of the following: Literature and Theory (from within the Department of English), History, History of Ideas (from within the Department of Philosophy), Institutions and Policies (from within the Department of Political Science), Music, and Molecular Biology.  One of the current hallmarks of this degree program is that students spend their junior year matriculated at Oxford University.

The most qualified candidates for the Senior Tutor position will have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in one of the disciplines represented in the OHP (however, qualified candidates with a Ph.D. in the broader Arts and Sciences will be considered), as well as demonstrated excellence in scholarship, teaching, program development, and academic administration.

The Senior Tutor will normally teach two courses each semester, which includes the Oxbridge introductory seminar (an interdisciplinary course whose subject matter may be informed by the Senior Tutor’s own scholarly expertise and whose intent is to teach high-level reading, writing, and critical-thinking skills); courses and tutorials in the Senior Tutor’s academic discipline, as determined by departmental needs; and courses within the College’s Core Curriculum, particularly first-year seminars or senior capstones. The Senior tutor will also lead the OHP discipline coordinators and oversee student recruitment and development, as well as faculty and curricular development in the program.  The Senior Tutor will manage both assessment and the Program’s budget.  The Senior Tutor must be able to articulate compellingly the value of the OHP to both prospective students and the greater external community, as well as maintain strong relationships with Oxbridge alumni and connections to various Oxford Colleges. William Jewell is in a growth phase characterized in part by a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion and the successful candidate will be expected to use innovative thinking to broaden, deepen, and diversify student application to and successful participation in the OHP.

This position will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending on the experience level of the successful candidate.

Phi Beta Kappa members are encouraged to apply.
