Job Description:

SUNY Empire State College currently seeks a Degree and Transfer Specialist (State title: Staff Assistant) in the Office of the Registrar. The chosen candidate will work as part of a team whose primary responsibilities include reviewing and approving individualized degree programs. In addition, they will assist as needed in evaluating and applying advanced standing credit to student records, creating, and maintaining student degree audits and providing guidance regarding policy and procedures for the college community.

Responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Participating in the review and approval of individualized undergraduate student degree programs
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of undergraduate student degree audits using Degree Works
  • Supporting academic review by researching answers and responding to questions regarding advanced standing credit and degree audit
  • Evaluating transferability of prior learning from regionally accredited colleges, military experience; non- collegiate sponsored instruction evaluated by ACE and/or NCCRS, and other pre-evaluated professional learning
  • Working with the Assistant Registrar for Transfer to create course equivalencies with input from faculty, assisting in the maintenance of the articulation tables, and applying transfer credit to student records
  • Providing support within the office regarding technology for transfer and degree audit processes, including assisting with the transition to new technologies
  • Working as part of a team and assisting with specific projects as assigned

The Office of the Registrar at SUNY Empire State College provides a wide range of services for students, alumni, faculty and staff, which include recording and reporting academic information, calculating, recording and reporting academic standing, graduation clearance, transcript services, transfer evaluation, enrollment verifications and certifications, collaboration on the academic calendar, enrollment reporting and forecasting, and publications including the term guide and the college catalog.  The office maintains all official student, alumni and curricular records for the college and it ensures the accuracy and integrity of the curricular and student records.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution
  • A minimum of two years' work experience in higher education
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as be a strong team player
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Clear and effective communication skills

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience utilizing student information software, particularly Banner and Degree Works
  • Experience working in a distributed environment
  • Experience with transfer credit and/or degree audit
  • Demonstrated system-level thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with an adult student population

Special Information:

  • This position will be located in Saratoga Springs, NY
  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position

Rank/Salary: SL2/$46,000.
