Job Description:

Raritan Valley Community College has an anticipated opening for a Full-Time Teaching Assistant in the Childcare Center. Working with a Head or Group Teacher, the Full Time Assistant is responsible for the safety and well-being of the children in an assigned classroom. The Assistant also is responsible for ensuring that all State licensing standards are met and College policy and practice is followed. 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Supervising, engaging and interacting with children during classroom routines and activity periods.

Assists the classroom teacher in the following areas: a) Supervise learning centers b) Actively participate in all classroom activities.

Works with individual or small groups of students at the request of the teacher.

Following the direction of the head or group teacher, while interacting with children using positive disciplinary practices and developmentally appropriate early childhood practices.

Maintain staff: child ratios at all times, being aware of daily attendance of children and adults during a work shift.

Working to keep the Children's Campus classrooms clean and neat, equipment sanitized and disinfected, supplies replenished and properly stored each day.

Assist with supervision of students and general classroom control.

Taking the initiative to know every child, treating each one with respect and encouragement.

Focusing on all of the children in the assigned classroom, while working with small groups or individuals as directed by the head or group teacher.

Presenting a positive and cheerful demeanor to children.

Respecting the confidentiality of the Children's Campus staff, children and their families.

Behaving in a professional manner when dealing with children, parents, co-workers, visitors.

Assisting teacher with observations of student work to complete profile based on developmental skills of child.

As a productive member of a teaching team and a community of center workers, the Teaching Assistant will:

Report to work on time, in good health, and ready to work.

Complete a leave request at least one week prior to taking time off so that staffing schedules can be arranged to meet required ratios.

Call in any absence due to illness as early as possible in the morning so that staffing schedules can be arranged to meet required ratios.

Open and close rooms , setting up room, with activities for students.

Position requires rotation between classrooms, daily. 

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree is preferred.
  • Child Development Associate Credential/CDA- willing to hire without, with expectation of completing CDA in a year.
  • Previous experience as a Teacher Assistant in a preschool, early childhood center, child care facility or children's program.
  • Some early childhood or elementary education or related field, or 5+ years of experience with recommendations from previous directors, supervisors, and or Head Teacher.
